Great news, just heard from Ping_man that the new forged Anser irons will be available in late summer now

are you really going to trade your g15's and get these right when they come out? You would of only had the g15's for a few months, how much money do you think you will loose on the deal?

I don't trade clubs in, I usually give them away or put them in my collection of clubs for later use

oh ok, wow you must have some money. That means you have the 2010 AP2's, 2010 AP1's and the Ping G15's sittiing in your closet and at the end of the summer you will get the Ping Anser forged irons. Thats pretty cool but alot of money.

Why are all you guys so consumed with the equipment that others own? To be totally honest golf is an expensive sport relative to other sports so i'm not sure why so many guys open their eyes when others own multiple sets of clubs. I regularly cycle with guys who do not even blink an eye at spending $5000-7000 on a custom bike with Campy Record, etc so owning multiple sets of golf clubs just does not seem that unusual to me anyway?????

Once again we have the misconception that the manufacturing process has some impact upon the club's playability.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Oh but it does. Playing forged clubs takes an automatic 2 strokes of your e-handicap.

YEs -- and after playing one round with a new set, off a handicap of 30, you can say that they are "more accurate".

Of course. And even if they aren't, the 'feel' and 'playability' are always worth tradeoff. Without dispute.

I saw my first set of these in person yesterday. They were righty, so I couldn't hit them...

They look cool as hell. But, then I took it off the rack and set the clubs down...they look like I15's at address. Still chunky and heavy-ish looking. Thick topline. Didn't like the hosel. Eggh.

The S57/S56 looks a better set to me. I haven't hit any of these though...the golf show is the only time I get to hit Pings besides the I/G series sets. Being a lefty, in Ohio, sucks in regards to having access to clubs to demo.

Bummer to hear that.

I've always liked the performance of the i-series (all the way back to my days with the i3s), but I never loved what I was looking at. Too bad to hear that the forged set looks clunky and odd like the rest.

Golf is no more expensive then cycling or triathlons. And its not uncommon to have a few sets of golf clubs as well as a few bikes in the shop. I own 2 sets of clubs a couple of drivers and at one time a had 8 bicycles sitting in my office : ) I only have 3 bikes left : ( My golf club costs will never catch up to my bike costs. I have more invested in one front wheel then I do my custom Ping G10 irons.

Great point. As a long-time cyclist and former shop mechanic, I've just begun to reduce the bike stash. Spending $400 on a driver is pretty trivial compared to $400 for a rear hub or $1,000 for a decent fork. The lady is happy that downhill racing is out of the picture for many, many reasons.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
