guys this is a link to a golf swing of mine. with a 7 iron. what i want to know is that apart from the hips sliding instead of turning in the downswing and the slightly long backswing where the club sort of falls,, is there anything else i need to work on?

I can see the video, but sliding is what you want with your hips, not rotation. As to shortening the backswing, that's fairly easy. You need to understand just how much shorter a proper length will feel. People say "3/4" or something like that, but try to feel like you're making a 1/4 or even 1/8th length backswing. That's how

parallel felt to me when I first started learning to shorten my backswing.

Well, some simple things to look at. Balance. You're obviously off balance as you follow through. Also, you want stiff shafts, not regular, but that isn't as important right now. The hips look good, but I believe you flip the club and hit up a tad on the ball. You need to have your hands leading the club till they are about belt high to your left.

Or you thinned the ball because you were off balance??


I'd get that left foot splayed out a bit. You are a little clumsy with the transfer because it gets "jammed" on the side of your left foot, blocking you from an easy opening of the hips to the target. It's harder and more awkard to "point your beltbuckle at the hole" with your left foot square to the line.

Really? Please explain? If your hips slide through the shot so will your body making it hard to have any consistency with syncing up your swing. Sliding through the shot will equate to getting out in front of the shot and leaving shots out to the right.

No. The best players move forward the most. I think Hogan did a bit of a dis-service when he described his motion as "bump and rotate" because his "bump" lasted longer into the downswing and follow-through and moved forward more than virtually anyone else.

If you don't move forward, you hit the ball fat and thin because the low point of the swing is way too far back.

No. The best players move forward the most. I think Hogan did a bit of a dis-service when he described his motion as "bump and rotate" because his "bump" lasted longer into the downswing and follow-through and moved forward more than virtually anyone else.

Indeed, one of the tricks to doing this the low right heel, very much in evidence in Hogan's swing, which keeps you from spinning out with the hips too early. The hips will have to rotate out of the way eventually or you really DO have Sliding Hips Syndrome and things can get pretty ugly.

Can you post a video from face on of a good player sliding his hips through the shot. I can see that if you rotate your back side through the shot the front side and hip will move a bit forward but actually "slide"...

To me that term is a bit misleading. Cheers

After trying pushing/sliding the hips and left knee, for me, pushing the right knee and rolling the right foot is what works best. Try different feelings to feind what works best for you.

I do agree with what your saying but it seems that if you rotate the back side, the front hip will move forward and up through the shot which you would call "slide". As long as your weight is transferring and driving though the shot to your front side while your rotate, the hips will move or slide as you call it.

To me it sounds like sliding through a shot is moving your body laterally far too much and getting ahead of it. Just a simple mis-undersanding.
