Unless your playing on PGA quality greens, do you really need enough backspin, to spin balls backwards on the green?

So, lol, you are giving me permission to buy some new CG-15s right? I don't get too much backspin, but I can hit up to a 5-iron with a short hop on the green, 3 and 4 roll forward though.

My clubs are beat to S%*, does anyone know if those wedge groove sharpeners work?

If you want the spin, why not? There are a lot of shots that I can play with good wedges that I just can't with worn down ones. But, as AK3 said, no wedge will give a bad player a ton of spin.

i am new to this forum but i'd like to add some light. I just got cg12s, 52 and 60. they are awesome - i used to have a basic sand wedge. Now, i can spin it like there's no tomorrow, hit a drop flop shot like it was my birthday everyday. it's worth the investment. Consider getting them from ebay and save tons. just have to know what you're looking for and find the right and legitiment deal (most are).

I thought about getting SVTs, i was sold when i eventually hit a cleveland.

Wedge is only part of the question. Also depends on what ball you play. A softer ball is easier to spin back, but these balls tend to cost $3+ each, and sometimes shred off is you really juice it.

As for $100+ wedges, take a look in the used club bins, or 2008-model displays. Lots of former $100+ wedges are down to $70 new, or maybe $40-$50 slightly used. Hunt around and see what you find.

Or, you could look at some of the new Adams Watson or Maxfli wedges for under $50. These are fine as long as you don't plan to do magic tricks with your wedge shots.
