well i think I want to get a diablo edge driver. I cant seem to find a decent price on one though and there arent any on the callaway pre owned site yet. When was this driver released? You would think they would have some used ones. Does anyone know where to get one at a decent price?

I replaced my Cobra L5V with the new PowerBilt Air force One.......the one that has a thinner face with nitrogen to provide a larger sweet spot (the whole face).....my drives went from 205-210 to 225-251.........Big Difference!

Powerbilt gets an "A" for technological advances and a "D" for marketing.

They have terrific equipment, just do not market that well.

I grew up on PowerBilt clubs in the 50's & 60's......now I am back using PowerBilt and they feel terrific....Price was right as well.

the Taylormade R7 Limited is the absolute best driver you can buy for the money. Hands down the best value in golf today if you can find one. I got one from golfsmith when they were still selling them a few months ago. There are lots of them selling on eBay these days for around $130-140 which is an absolute STEAL (I got mine for $199 and it's the best money I've ever spent on my golf game).

What's in my TaylorMade stand bag:

Im actually thinking of just getting the callway ft-5 now. I tried the ft-9 at the store and it was good but Ive heard the ft-5 is better. My other option might be the g10 if I can find one. Which one should I get guys?

Hey guys I currently have the callaway great big bertha and am looking to upgrade my driver. I want to get a used driver particularly one that is like last years model or the year before that so that I can get a used one at a good price. My question is, which driver should I get out of say 07,08, or 09's drivers? Is there a standout one because Im not sure If I wil be able to test hit one before I buy a used one off of a site.

Drivers that you might want to take interest in are the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo, Ping G15, or the Callaway FT-I series. Usually these clubs come in odd shapes, and may be off-putting for the average golfer at address, but they are very forgiving. Out of these examples though, the Diablo is probably your best bet for price. Other clubs you might want to try out with the traditional shaped-head, include the new Cobra ZL (Zero Limits) driver (My personal favorite), The Ping G5 (Yes, G5. It's not a typo), TaylorMade R7 Superquad (Very forgiving), Ping G10 (The whole Ping G series is fantastic), and the Callaway FT-9. ~RHPM

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha Diablo 9º
2 Hybrid: Callaway Big Bertha Heavenwood

          Taylormade Tour Preferred PW-7 iron
Wedges: Cleveland CG14 50º, 54º
              Taylormade RAC 58º
Putter: Ping Darby 32" shaft

Said the guy playing TM Burners and PING raptures - LOL.

Whatever gets the ball out in the fairway - the most forgiving driver is the one for me.

I have the 2009 Burner with the stock (stiff) shaft and 9.5 Loft. I like the burner.........it is one of the few drivers that I can hit a fade with all day long and still draw the ball a little if I need to. I've been through 5 drivers in the past few years looking for one that really appeals to my game. For my swing........it works pretty well.

Why order an out of date driver?

why not order one a couple years old and save hundreds of dollars. I mean if you have the money by all means buy the newest one but with the technology nowadays most clubs within a year or 2 will perform nearly the same unless they have drastic difference qualities. I mean look at the pros, they are using new products right when they come out. When a pro was using a ft-5 a couple years ago I guarentee he was hitting it the same as say the ft-9 that came after it.

No...the FT9 is MUCH more forgiving than the FT5. You ordered one without hitting it? LOL...you come here asking for advice on which driver to get and many gave you some good suggestions, but you decided on another that wasnt recommended based on someone elses recommendation. Heres a novel idea...buy one based on your observations...not others opinions. Good luck with your club.

I made an educated buy because I couldnt test the ft-5 first. At 100.00 its not that much of a gamble. Most people recommended the burners, I could only check out the 09 burner and wasnt impressed. I dont like the g15 that much so I didnt go for the g10 plus I couldnt find one that easy. Ive always liked callaways drivers, my current driver is the great big bertha so I looked at the ft-9 driver. I thought it was a decent driver after hitting. I read around alot of read that the ft-5 is liked more than the ft-9. I went and looked at the golf digest hot list around 2008 and the ft-5 was the top gold one and picked as editors choice out of them all. hmmm cant be that bad.

If I do get it and not like it. I will most likely ship it back with in the two weeks aloted time and get my full refund and exchange it for the first diablo driver. I like the diablo edge but not the price.

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
