So, I was needing some balls and did the smart thing and found some online fairly cheap(Callaway Tour I) and ordered them. Meanwhile, I wanted to play some golf and needed some balls, so I went to Wal-Mart and decided to buy some cheap-o's since my good balls were coming. Anyways, I bought some Wilson Profiles($12/dozen). I usually buy Tour I's or Bridgestone E5+, or some other ball from the 25-35 $/dozen range.
To say I was impressed with the Wilson's would be an understatement. I shot my best round of the year(78) and these balls did everything I would want. Hit far, plenty of spin, soft around the greens, etc.
I said all of that to say, I'm over expensive balls!!

Wilson makes some really good balls - they always have.

Wow! Those are some pretty crazy deals on balls. I think I might be making a large ball purchase in the near future.

I regularly pay about $18/doz and never more. They are some good balls in that range like the Srixon Soft Feel and the Top Flight Gamer V2.

About a month ago I bought a couple dozen Wilson Maximum balls. They cost $9 a dozen and actually arent all that bad. They obviously dont spin like a tour ball will, but for $9 a dozen you cant expect much.

Try Wilson Staff Zip Core if you can find them. I was paying about $11.00 dz online last year for a Great 3 piece ball. Both great distance and feel around the greens. The same ball for 2010 is call C:25. Expect to pay more for a while. Wilson has always a good ball ,but bad sales.

Yup, there is no reason a 10 handicap like myself should be playing expensive balls. I've been playing the Top Flight Gamer v2 as well. These balls have gotten great reviews, I just don't like the emblem! Haven't had a chance to play the Wilson's, maybe I'll grab a sleeve next time through the golf store.

I would not recommend that, since you get a lot of different balls. It doesn't matter as much what type of ball you play as long as you play it well and use the same all the time. It will give you some predictability on the distance, spin and feel.

You can still play "expensive balls" if buy them used thru lostgolfballs.com or ebay. I get my pro V1s 50-60% off retail price and they look brand new.

I hit a terrible shot on #12 today and dunked a Wilson Eco Core into the water. Dammit - there went 87 cents down the drain!

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
