Did you play on your HS golf team? Could you make the team today?

I played JV in 93-94 and varsity in 95-96 - I was the first man off varsity in 94 and we won state that year. I took 3rd place in the city JV tournament in 1993 and lost in a playoff in 94. We set a scoring record in the ABQ city championship in 1995 (I shot something like 76 and my score got tossed) - but we got killed at state that year (it was played with temps in the 40-50 degree range and a constant 30mph wind). 1996 was cool because I won a pretty big tournament the second week, but only myself and our 1 qualified for state - I played like crap at state that year - lame. I think I got senioritis that year as well (too much beer and not enough practice).

I checked the New Mexico 5A state championship site - we took 5th out of 7 qualifying teams, and our 1-man shot 79-83 - I could still probably be a 1 or 2 for my HS team - our team has pretty much fallen off since our coach retired around 2000.

LOL... Yes, I played on my high school golf team. JV for 3 years and made varsity my senior year... 1972! I regularly shot in the low 40s, 40-42, on nine. Top four scores on our team counted... mine never counted once during my senior year. The top two golfers were scratch and the next two were 37-39. I was on the first team in 13 years that did not win our conference tournament and did not go to the state golf tournament. Quite a legacy, huh?

I quit playing golf about 25 years ago, and started playing again last summer. I've been shooting in the 45-50 range lately... so I'm sure I wouldn't make the HS team today. I've always been about having fun on the golf course. I was heavily involved in football and wrestling, and more serious about them. I probably only made the HS varsity golf team because two better players got caught drinking during their basketball season. In those days, at least at our school, you got kicked off the team for a violation of team rules, and couldn't play a sport in the next season, either. Pretty harsh, huh?

I played one year in highschool, right now i could make varsity golf squad, back then i was jut on the JV for one year. It was a blast though.

Unfortunately, my HS did not have a team until after I graduated. I think I could have made it though.

unfortunately I did not play in HS but feel I couldve made it if I wouldve been more prioritized.

However I dont dwell on it as Im only 22 I feel I still could have a good golf future ahead of me. This is my first season that it is my priority. I played hockey since I was 5 and played through college so I didnt have time. Looking back I wish I wouldve played golf in high school. I and just now trying and setting goals and am already shooting consistently around 40. The number 1 golfer in my high school shot around 40. I actually played him yesterday and he only beat me by two stokes.

I dont regret anything but I feel I could make the team today.
