What is the average yardage for plus or minus 4 degrees?

So a 10 degree driver - a 14 degree 3 wood = how many yards

I am trying to determine yardage in increments of 4 degrees.

Thanks.

What's who's average yardage on a 10 degree driver? The average poster?

Probably the average of 200 and 350 would be close.

Why not check out one of the various distance threads? People who posts their distances, even those confirmed with laser rangefinders, tend to get sh** on - follow your nose to the search feature.

because they aren't AVERAGE distances.

average includes the bad shots, most people (including myself) only include the good hits.

i kinda understand what your getting at say player A hits his 10* driver 280 on average he will hit his 14* 3 wood atleast 20 yards shorter do to shorter shaft as well so lets say 255 then for irons a swing speed of 115 will produce 12 - 15 yard gaps between irons well it does for me

if u swing at 100 or less its probably the stock 10 yard difrence

That's like asking how much faster a 25' boat is over a 35' boat. There are too many variables to consider. For some, 4° may be 10 yards, to others, 25. It's all about you.

because they aren't AVERAGE distances.

I included the topped drive from round one of the season(I've also topped two 3-woods and a 5-wood this year), the 2 fat ones I've had (1 in round and one on Wednesday) I get a pretty good idea what my true average drive is. More importantly, I know when a hole is too short or too tight to use it - whether I heed that information is another story.

I'd say a well struck 10 degree driver and a 15 degree 5-wood are about 20 yards difference . I'd say about 20-25 less than that for a 19 degree 5-wood (which I sometimes carry - it goes about 5-10 yards longer than my 19.5 degree Fybrid). I'd say my short irons (GW, 9i, 8i) are about 15 yard gaps, mid-irons are about 12 yard gaps, and 3-5-iron are back to 15 yard gaps.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input. I think it is safe to say 4 degrees can equate to 10-20yards plus or minus.

Search around on Ralph Maltby's site for this. It will take you an hour of so of reading to see what all is at play.

Old rule of thumb for irons within a set (assuming uniform shafts): The 4° loft difference plus the .5" shaft length difference equals about 10 yards. Someone posted average yardage figures for tour pros, and it varied from 12 yards for some higher lofted clubs down to about 8 yards for 3i vs. 4i. (3i vs. 4i less distance due in part to loft deflation - only 3 degrees difference between longer clubs.)

Stronger players with more clubhead speed will get more than 10 yards; those with lower clubhead speed will get less than 10 yds. That's why some modern women's sets contain only 7-9-SW, because gaps between normal 7i and 8i would only be about 6 yards.

For drivers and metal woods, things get wilder. For overall details, see Ralph.

. . . down to about 8 yards for 3i vs. 4i. (3i vs. 4i less distance due in part to loft deflation - only 3 degrees difference between longer clubs.)

When I got my lofts and lies done last year, he stretched the gaps a bit (4 and 5 yard gaps). I initially wanted them even across the board, but he suggested I could drop out the 2-iron - successful!

I didn't realize he'd done the same thing with my short irons until I picked them up (5 degrees from PW to 9 to 8i). I decided to try it out and was able eventually drop the PW as well - now I go from the 52* GW to 9i, and so on. It helps with club selection and I'd highly recommend it.
