I done caddies. It's OK . If it's a one time experience the caddy did not know my game and tendencies to significantly affect my game. Now a caddy who worked each of your rounds ---that would be ideal. The caddy on a new course can give you some tips on holes where the shot is not obvious however driving ahead to scout shot with the cart or a good GPS unit does the same.

Throwing out another choice ----Which one would be better a caddy or a beverage cart on demand be best??? ie your own beer cart????

Caddy... I don't want to pay for carts anymore and carrying my bag sucks.

I was just thinking how great it would be to have a caddy. Not even like a tour caddy who walks every inch of the course, but just a person to carry the bag, hand you clubs, and give you advice on your shots. I just wish I could have the experience a couple times.

I had a Female Caddy once in Asia. They are soo annoying. They gave a wrong club recommendation. They also gave a wrong yardage. They shouted FORE when it should have been you who do it.

If you are not a professional, forget about having a caddy. Those caddies are very unprofessional.

My only experience with a caddy was in Mexico many years ago. They didn't speak English and I didn't speak Spanish. But it was an awesome experience and they really helped. Proves that golf is truly an international game. He would hand me a club, I'd look at it and frown, and he'd just say a few things and point at the ball. Damn if he wasn't correct most of the time. And talk about reading greens, with some hand motions and signals, it was amazing how he could tell me how the putt would run. The best part was tipping him $20 after the round and knowing it would feed his family for several days.

Was it in China ?

In China , part of the golf package is you goto have a caddie ( male or female ) . They will carry the clubs , rake the bunker , repair the divot , tell you the distance , hand you the club and align the ball on green for you. They were trained with what club with yardrage ( Asian / Chinese Golfers in specific ) , so it might give you the wrong club if you are from other place than China. To have a caddie ( an experinced and know the yardrage well something like a GPS ) will certainly help your game . He or she will tell you the sloping info of the green , the terrain , where to hit BUT you call the shot . I had a caddie which i always book ( since is it a compulsary by the club ) before she when went to maternaty leave .She has worked nice years at the course and know evry single bit of the course and i learn rading putting line from her too . I also played in another old course in Malaysia and you gotto have caddie too to play there. He is about 55 years old and have work there for 38 years. I played at the cource for the very 1st time and i shot 77 at the 2nd time i played there with the same caddie.

Tiger's handicap at his home course is around +9.

I would guess that Tiger has his home course figured out by now. What I would like to see is for him and the rest of the field to play a Tour event in which their caddy couldn't give one word of advice. The players wouldn't be helpless, but it would make it a bit like recreational golf, where you're on your own.

It would be cool. I wish I could afford to have a caddy and a swing coach.

I've never played with a caddy but I would love to have a good one. One of my golfing buddies (35 years older, retired cop haha), we like to talk a lot about golf when we play. We talk about course strategy, which way greens break, shot shape, how a distance might play, playing misses, swing errors, etc. When we talk it out, we both play fantastically. Just talking about it and figuring it out helps set your mind and confirm your decisions before you hit each shot. Gives a lot of confidence. We don't do this all the time as sometimes we play against each other for a beer or something fun like that, but when we do, we always shoot one of our better scores.

    • Sounds about right. I forgot this place existed until now.
    • Day 5: Mirror work focusing on the start of the backswing
    • Day 82 (22 Jul 25) - played our church men’s group captains choice nine hole this evening.  Had a blast working green side shots with the wedges.  Love the format as I play a nine club bag which brings on shot creativity in a fun way.
    • Finished Bandon Trail today. Man what a course. Big upgrade over Sheep Ranch. I am giving Sheep Ranch a  7/10. Mostly views, course was good, and fun.  I am giving Bandon Trails 8.25/10. It's up there with Sand Valley in my opinion. Much more demanding of the course. With the wind it just gets brutal.  The first two holes are fully exposed to the wind, since they sit on the western edge of the course, open to the pacific. Even though it is tree lined, the wind has a big impact as it rolls over the hills and dunes. You can be surrounded by trees and feel the 20 mph wind at the tee box or fairway. I recommend using the yardage book, as it contains the course layout with a compass rose showing the prevailing wind (almost always from the north in the summer). It's easier to judge which direction the wind is going.  I played halfway decent. I hate when the shank gets loaded into the gun. Short game is on point, putting is good. I just need to make better swigs. My shot is definitely not built for wind. 😭 Here are some photos...
    • Would he not be entitled to unplayable relief and a one stroke penalty? And wouldn't the drop for unplayable plausibly be the same as the one he took?  That he cited the wrong rule and no penalty makes this a two stroke penalty instead of one? I'm assuming I'm wrong and there is a rule that prevents the player from reinterpreting his actions afterwards?  Regarding rule 14.7 - wrong place - and the general penalty. In this case, he gained a significant advantage by having an unimpeded swing? Shouldn't the penalty be for a "serious breach"? DQ?
