Hot damn! So, I really lost my swing over a week ago. Before a round I hit the practice tee and for whatever reason started shanking everything. Took me to the 10th hole to get somewhat of a workable swing going to finish out. Ever since then I've been hitting the range and the same problem - shanks or tops or bad slices with irons (which I'd never suffered from before).

Sunday, I ended up using my entire range session doing the feet together drill and realized why I was so broken. I had little shoulder turn, was being really armsy, and I was hitting at the ball instead of through it. Ever since then, I've been striking extremely well through the whole bag. I've decided to make the drill part of my warmup for a round and even employ it during a round if I get into a funk, it's helped me that much.

I also use this drill. I think it really helps me if I do this waiting for my turn to tee off.
Now, if I can just maintain focus!

I variation to this that I've found invaluable is dropping my right foot back half way and then spreading my feet apart by about six inches. You can hit really solid shots this way and it promotes a much more stable swing. I've incorporated this into my preshot routine. I take a couple practice swings this way and then step up to make my real swing.

Amen. I use the feet-together at the start of every range or warm-up session. After stretching and a few warm-up swings, my first few balls are always feet-together. If I can't hit those cleanly and sharply, I'm not ready for the rest of the swing. It's always amazing to me how good and forceful a shot you can get like that.

Since nobody explained the drill... I'll ask. What is it?

From what I'm reading... you just put your feet together and make as normal a swing as possible. Is that correct?

I'd like to try it if so many of you are convinced it's working.

Here's an explanation I found that explains it well:

After a terrible front 9, I played the entire back nine with my feet together. This was a little extreme, but it got me under control.

This may be the drill for me. I've always been told that I'm all arms and my pro said if I would use my shoulders more I could add up to 20 yards.

That's a great idea. It might have saved me today---I could not hit a clean iron shot with anything more than my 52° wedge. I rarely hit badly during the drill, so next time I'll give it a shot.
