I worked on A6-A8. I was trying to figure out how to get the club to stay a tad more inside to get it to go outward.
What I came up with, and it's something that was discarded previously because I struggled with it. I decided to try to add a bit more reverse motorcyle rev feel in the downswing and feeling like I am hitting the ball with heel of my right hand. .
This feel seems to do two things. It twists and puts the club more inside, and then lets me feel like I can push my hands outward with my right hand.
Most people know golfers who they can ask and easily dispel any concerns that all golf courses are like Augusta. If they did any research and looked at muni courses they could see the dresses code is much more relaxed than it is at Augusta or other more expensive private clubs.
I'd guess those clubs with the really strict dress codes (sock color and belt color) make up less than 10% of the private clubs in the country. You don't join a club like that unless you a) have the money, b) want to be in a club that dictates ever article of clothing you wear.
Those clubs do grow the game, just at a lower percentage, because people join them to network and be around other wealthy, influential people. I know a few business owners that joined pretty exclusive golf country clubs to network and as a result get pretty hooked on golf too. Granted, that happened a lot more in the past when you could write off your membership fees as a business expense.
It could depend on having mean impact a groove lower than normal on the iron face. You might have picked it clean - got excellent contact without thinning it and having a lower line drive.
Also, you said you made "no conscious effort to swing harder..." You may have made a relaxed swing that simply fell in the slot better than some other shots.
If it lands on the back fringe instead of 10 feet from the pin, just lag up and tap in for a par. Life is good!
What happened? You made your perfect swing.
It happens to me every so often, especially with irons. It's almost always when I'm making a smooth 3/4 swing. Perfect everything(for me) and the ball may carry 15 yards farther than a normal shot.
Happened to me yesterday with my gap wedge(110) carried 120 or so.....led to a double bogey.
