Do you just make a random decision? Check the animated radar map?

I check the weather, the radar map, and also consider how it's been the last few days. If I think I've got a pretty good chance of getting my round in before the heavy stuff comes down I might chance it. I don't like playing in the rain though so if my gut tells me I'd get wet I just stay home. I get to play a lot though (twice a week) so missing an opportunity to play isn't that big of a deal for me. If you've got some decent rain gear playing in a little rain is no big deal.

I'm 45 minutes west of NYC. We just had a quick, but wicked, rain go through. There is lingering thunder and some pretty ominous clouds hangin' around.

Check (doppler) radar, a few preferred weather reports on-line, if no thunder and lightning, pack the wet weaher gear and head out

I'll generally play unless it's already raining before I go out or the forecast is for continuous bad stuff (i.e., lightning and thunder). It also helps that I don't mind playing in a light rain or waiting out a passing storm.

If its just a chance of thunderstorms I go and tough it out. If it looks like its gonna rain for awhile I'm not playing all day in the rain.

btw, why is it dangerous to play in lightning?

aren't the grips rubber thus will not conduct electricity?
also how about graphite shafts?

random thoughts i was thinking 2 days ago when there was lightning and we were driving home

You go out and try it and let us know how you get on lol.

1.) Put a golf grip on a fork

2.) Jam the tines into an electrical outlet 3.) Report your findings

Lightning is much too powerful for a simple golf grip keep the charge away from your hands. Also, graphite (graphite itself a conductor) shafts are really made of carbon fiber, which conducts electricity.
