Ok. So i've golfed many, many times by myself at my local golf course. But I noticed that some people booked tee times for 3 people and they were the only ones to show up, and there were foursomes (one of them was mine) around his tee time. I asked the starter about tee times and he also said you can't book tee times for a single. So I was wondering how do you get on the course, if you want to golf yourself. I suppose you call in and say that you would like to join a three-some but I would like to make sure.

It sounds like you need to contact the pro shop, and ask them directly. At my two home courses, I can book a tee time for one with no issue (either on the phone or on-line). The same for another 5 courses in my area. You may also try just showing up at the course at the time you want to play, and see if they put you in the next available slot (little risky, but may work).

At my course you usually only have to book tee times at the weekends when it's busy and I generally only play with friends on the weekend, so usually if I wanna play by myself I just show up midweek and walk on. If I did wanna play on the weekend and had nobody to play with then yeah I'd ring the pro shop and get the pro to fit me in with a group. If there are tee times free you can book one for yourself but if other people want to play and there's no other times but yours you expect that the pro will put them in a group with you. I've never heard of people booking a time for 3 and then only showing up by them self (did happened to me once when my two buddies cancelled on me 5 mins before we were supposed to tee off but that's different), I'd wager the pro wouldn't stand for it more than once, however, as it gets busy on the weekend and doing that prevents others playing.

I usually play by my self. I just show up. I should add that it never that busy and I play during the week after 4.

I play solo a lot of the time, although I'm starting to dislike it more and more. They start taking tee times at 7am at my local course, but a lot of people will show up as early as 5:30 to tee off. The management is really cool with it and teeing off at 6:30AM makes for a nice quick round and home by 11 or so.

If I don't go really early I've found that you can just show up at a lot of courses and sneak on with a 3-some or 2-some. A lot of the time one guy won't show up and you can take their spot.

But what sucks is my course has leagues which is a pain when they go in their 5-somes and take 5 minutes on each putt. Well I think i'm gonna just call in and ask about it just to make sure when leagues are, and when I could just come in and play.

The course I play will not take tee times for single either. They just tell me to show up and they will get me on. Don't usually have a problem.

I don't play solo much anymore, but when I did it was pretty easy to get on. One, I would call and find out if there were any 2s or 3s with a tee time and then add my name to it so I had a specific time. The other thing to do is just show up when I wanted to play and wait for the opportunity. The main course I go to has the putting green right next to the #1 tee box so it was pretty easy to pay and get loaded onto a cart and just wait for a group with 2 or 3 players and join in. It was pretty rare to go any longer than 30-40 minutes waiting. There is always a group that doesn't have someone show up.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.
