Titliest AP1's

Thinking about selling my CG's and getting fitted for my some AP1's. Went to a golf shop when I went on vacation in Myrtle Beach. I got my specs, the pro said I needed an extra inch and 3* upright. I hit several clubs. The Nike VR Cavity backs, TM Burners, AP1's, and the G15's. The AP1's most definately felt the best and were the most comfortable. Once the pro measured me and gave me my specs he got in the Ping locker and gave the G15 that matched my specs and it made a world of difference. The AP1's weren't fitted but as far as the comfortability the AP1's were my choice. So, I'm thinkin' I'm gonna get the AP1's fitted for me and sell my old ones. Anyone have the AP1's fitted? If so, how have they held up, etc... I've not played a Titliest club, noone I play with plays a Titliest sticks so I don't really have any experience with them. Thanks for any input in advance.

I like Titleist clubs, i have a set of 990 DCI that I go back to when I am not feeling comfortable with my Clevelands. I am looking at getting a set of the AP2's fit for me. Haven't done alot of research on the difference between the 1's and the 2's but the guy at the pro shop said the 2's would fit my swing better

I do not really know much about AP1's and titleist fitting but i might be able to help you out...as far as quality of Titleist clubs, they are excellent. I have a set of Titleist DCI 990s that my Grampa bought me when i first started playing...They are now about 8 years old and i still love them, they are in great shape and have held up nicely. I even still have the original grips on them which are still pretty good and i even went on a run where i would play 6-9 full rounds a week in the summer time for about 3 seasons...

As far as fitting goes...it will be extremely important to your game as you probably have a "unique" stature...the thing is that you got fitted for Ping clubs and as far as i have heard, no one fits better than ping and seeing as fitting is a crucial part to your specific game i might advise you stick with a company that can fit you well...I am also interested in the AP1's mainly because i love titleist and there products but i have a fairly average stature that requires +1* upright and i will not see too much difference from my stock 990s...But if i had a more "unique" stature i would strongly consider a brand like ping who i know will fit me the best

I would find a titleist fitter though, try out the AP1's with your specs, and compare and contrast to whatever else you might like and see what works

You're in luck my friend. I was just fitted for AP1's about 2 weeks ago. I got my clubs a couple of days ago, and they are really nice. They are great for your handicap, however, I think you should get AP1 in 3-7i and 8-P in AP2. The AP2 feel really really good in the shorter irons. In total, it comes to under $800. Definitely get AP1's they are very nice.

i am getting fit for the ap1s also in about a week. I might think about doing that ap1 and ap2 set too. that sounds like it would work great.

Its all about how they look to you from above. As for quality of the club and reviews I have never heard a negative comment personally from an owner of these over the last two years. They have a great balance of feel and control. However, I suggest you try several other irons and read up on reviews of them all before making the commitment!

I would agree with this 100% Get the combo set. I wish I would have.

I got my AP1s last July and I love mine. They are long (they have a pretty strong loft) and pretty forgiving. My only compaint would be that they scratch really easily. My clubs aren't even a full year old and it looks like they are 10 years old. I know I'm not alone in this. Others with AP1s have said the same. I don't know if they've changed the material at all with the 710 series. Even so, they are great clubs! You'll be happy.

I had g10s very good clubs. Then i got fitted for my ap1 and i haven't looked back. Super nice clubs, i have no intentions on changing irons. I can't say enough about them. Go gettem....

I would be careful about mixing AP1s and AP2s since the lofts of the AP1s are 2 degrees stronger.

you can get a combo set? damn, i should look into this.

my mizuno mp-57's are really starting to get worn out quite a bit. i've actually been looking for something with more forgiveness even though my swing has gotten better and better, i'm taking lessons, and my handicap continues spiral downwards... I just think CB's are the way to go. I just don't see the advantage to blades, or even cut muscle really unless your scratch or better.

Why did the pro tell you that you need one extra inch and 3* upright? How tall are you, and what is the measurement from your wrist to the floor.
What is your natural ball flight? Can you provide a little more info about your physical characteristics, and how the pro fitted you?

I can tell you through experience that adding 1" to the shaft will make the club sit and swing more upright all by itself ( effective lie angle ), negating the need for a real serious lie bending. A 3* bend( actual lie angle ) seems a little extreme ontop of adding 1". My mental picture of this fitting......... is telling me that the clubs will be playing almost 4-5 degrees upright. Mayby another clubmaker on here can chime in on this.

I am no club fitter but wouldn't a longer shaft mean a flatter lie?

You need to think in shaft length and lie correlation here.

The golf swing takes place on a plane formed by the golfer's shoulders and the ball at address. When a longer golf shaft is used, the golfer must stand further from the ball making the swing plane a little flatter. In other words: The toe would be pointing more upwards. Thats why lie angles are described in (actual) and (effective) terms. Actual Lie: The way the clubhead was made and sitting evenly soled. Effective Lie : The clubhead lie relation to the length of the club on a given swing plane.

did you try the longer irons in the AP2's?

I loved them when i hit them so I didn't even think about making a combo set. I guess it's all preference but I wouldn't want a mixed set of irons
