Is there any golf app or GPS app that can record a set of points(waypoints) on the phone and then turn that into a google map/KML file?

The main reason is that I usually analyze my score card for the goof ups but often forget what exactly happened a bad hole. I try to see the google map of the course and try to remember seeing the layout of the hole. Having an app that records the locations of each shot and then show a map of the 'trail' or 'spots' where I hit each shot would be a great feature. I have requested this from GolfShot.

Anybody have any tips of how I can achieve this? It should be possible using a hike/trail app but I dont know which one supports this.

Im not exactly sure what you're looking for. Im not really technically advanced, but I just got the "Golfshot" app on my iPhone. I just haven't taken it on course yet (only got it Monday) My buddy has the same app, but with the GPS option. He really really likes it. The GPS option is only $30! The basic app without GPS is FREE! Hard to beat...

In my Ogio bag.

Titleist 910D2 driver, Adams irons & hybrid, Callaway wedges & a Nike Method putter.

And a yellow ball.

I have used the Golfshot app for about a month now, and it is the greatest thing available for the iphone. Every time I play with my buddy with his $300 Skycaddy my golfshot is always within 2-3 yards of his reading. It also tracks GIRS, Fairways, putts, and anything else you can think of. I recommend it for any golf fanatic with an iphone, and it saves you $270 from buying a skycaddy of laser rangefinder

I have golfShot GPS and like it a lot. One thing I miss is the ability to save the GPS location from where I hit each shot. I can press a button to save each location of my shot the software can easily render it on a google map like i have shown here.

Taking this to a step further, the location can also prompt to store the club used in hitting the shot. May be too much information but a course map with an overlay of all my shots would make it a great picture to save and archive.

Its definitely doable, hope they come out with this feature soon.

One thing you can do in lieu of a position capture feature is to take a screen shot at each shot when your iPhone shows you where you are on the course.

To take this feature a step further, image an iPhone app that not only records the position of each shot, but has an option for you to take a video of each shot. At the end of the round, you have a scorecard, stats, where you took your shot and a video of each swing.

You could relive your best rounds or show your friends. Sooner or later, I think this will be available. You could do this now, but you'd have to work at moving things around instead of having the computer do all the work for you and tie it all up into a package.

I have been using golf shot for about a year now. Absolutely the best app for the iphone and for the price it might be one of the best GPS programs out there including the upro, skycaddie, and all the others. Definately a great value for the price. Don't know if you guys know this but the handicap feature is also dead on. My handicap in golfshot is figured as a 9.4, I did a test with a club down here that I work with and it the actual USGA handicap program calculated mine at a 9.3. I would say that is pretty close. It will be way off until you get a complete 20 rounds in though (which is normal). Great app for the price and a must for any golfer with an iphone. We already pay enough just for the iphone why not utilize it to its max potential.

I use golfcard and it is more accurate than I was expecting. It also tracks GIRS, putts, sand shots etc. You can email yourself the scorecard after the round and upload all your data to oobgolf. So far its a great app.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
