I love it.
It is my favorite club in the bag.
I have been thinking about picking up a 1.

Anybody else use a 2 or 1?

Occasionally I'll have the 2i in the bag (last time out actually), but personally I wouldn't consider a 1-iron. Not that I've even seen one in a long time.

Couple of us played a 1i in high school, some 12 years ago or so. That's really the last time I've seen them used regularly.

They don't really make one irons any longer. With the todays stronger lofts current 2irons are basically one irons with 1/2 inch shorter shaft. I believe there is maybe one or two guys on tour who have put a longer shaft and adjusted the lie to give themselves a one iron. Realisticly if you are hitting into a green and want the ball to stop a hybrid is a better choice. As a tee club you want to roll out, ok, but where else is it better?

Lay up club on long par 5's?

If you forget your putter you could use the 1i lol. If it's windy the 1i will be better. Try to copy jack's magic 1i shots. It's also a really good practice club for the range.

I play with a guy in a league who has a set of Ping Zings that has a 1 iron (very unusual to see an oversized cavity back head with very little loft!) and a set of Taylor Made RAC MB's with a 1 iron (much more traditional looking). He plays with those sets occassionaly and will hit the 1i on 200+
yd par 3's or on long fairway shots where he doesn't need a fairway wood. He hits them pretty well too.

My brother still games a 1-iron. It's about 1-2* flat for him and has a driver shaft in it, plays to about 43". The club is awesome! A low spin, low launch bullet.

I've never gamed a 1-iron myself but I love 2-irons. If I didn't love my 3-wood so much I wouldn't hesitate to put one back in my bag.

Driver shaft in a 1i. Wow that is interesting! I would love to see a picture of it.

Just a copper PING Eye-2 with a black driver shaft (don't remember what brand, likely Aldila). Nothing special. It's a monster of a driving iron though if you've got the timing and swing speed to hit it.

Lots of people still carry a 2 iron. It's just that since the year 2000, most of them have a "3" engraved in the clubhead. Viva loft deflation!

I've carried a 2I for 17 years (same one too) - I can still blister that thing 250-260 and it holds the line better than my fairway woods.

Only god can hit a 1i as they say so you guys must be gods. Whos Posiedon? Haha. Well a lot of pros carry 2is such as Tom Watson, Tiger, Phil Mickelsons longest iron might be a 3.

The thing is, a lot of young guys hit their 4 iron farther than old guys like me can hit a 2-iron anyway.

Tiger doesn't carry a 2 iron anymore, he replaced it with a 5 wood. He said he can carry a 5w 250 wheras a 2 iron only about 240 if he was lucky--(not even the longest on this thread)

    • Day 85 - 2026-03-17 30 minutes of putting work, 15 chipping. Getting reacquainted with the Scottsdale green and greenside terrain. Really freaking hot here.
    • Day 9 (17 Mar 26) - Worked with alignment today to work on getting properly lined up with target point using alignment rods.  Worked on getting takeaway parallel to alignment line.  Solid session.
    • Day 212 3-17 Flow work and arching. Hit some foam balls. Recorded
    • Im struggling to hit a 3 wood any distance. Im 67 now and used to use a 3 wood all the time. My swing speed with the 3 woods is between 80-84. I am only 5'5" tall. I currently have 4- 3 woods in my used club selection. I have an old Titliest 910FD, a Taylormade Sim2, a PXG gen 4 and a Ping G430. None of these can i hit more than 180 yards and often much shorter. My driver which is a Ping G430 I hit about 210-225. Heres the crazy thing, I carry a Taylormade Sim2- 7 wood that I hit 175-185. I carry an older titliest H1 Hybrid 23* that i hit 165-175. All yardages are with carry. When i hit both the Hybrid and the 7 wood they feel like very solid strikes yet I never feel like i hit any of these 3 woods solid. All of these clubs have regular shafts of different manufacturers. I would like to be able to hit a 3 wood 200 yards. Im thinking I need to start playing with shafts, Maybe even shorten them some. I have equipment to pull shafts and set swingweights and reglue. I have a bunch of reg flex old driver shafts that i could shorten. My driver, 7 wood and Hybrid are all D3 Swingweight. The 3 woods are D3 as well.  Where would you start? Thanks Rod
    • This was a great read from start to finish. Ive been watching the LAB putters for 3 or 4 years now. Ive never been a good putter and Ive worked at putting but i just dont seem to get better at it. I play at least 3 times a week with a 11.6 Hdcp and i have owned probably 20+ putters over my last 10 years. Ive even tried the broomstick putters which at first I thought helped but as time went on i missed just as many putts. For me it comes down to nerves which i struggle to control when putting. I always feel like i have someone leaning over me watching my every move when i putt. I had a friend I play with this fall go get fitted for a LAB and he came back all excited, he bought one and he was already a player that probably averages 32 putts a round. So i think I would say hes a good putter. I used his putter a few times and the feeling i get compared to my putter which right now is a Ping Vault 2.0 Piper and just before that an Evnroll ER5v and before that Spyder Ghost........anyway the feeling I notice was that i can take the putter back without it twisting some. At least thats the feeling i get. I dont know if i would be a better putter with a LAB putter but after this year i will know as I went and was fitted and have one on the way. I can only hope it makes a differnce. If not ive got plenty of putters to fall back on!  Rod
