Mizuno MP-T Wedges

My back up wedges are the older Mizuno MP-T wedges and I took them out last week since my gamer wedges were in my friend's trunk. They feel a bit heavier than the Vokey or Cleveland wedge and feel quite dead when making contact with the ball. First time using forged wedges and did not like it at all. Took some time getting used to the weight of the club. Is it just me?

To a point - yes, it might be you. But noone can tell you what's the best wedge for you. If you like a club, then that's it.

In my case, I had Mizuno MP-R wedges, and loved them. But then I decided to try Vokeys because of all the love given them on this forum (and others I'm sure). I liked the Vokeys very much, but eventually realized that I also liked the Mizunos a lot. After about a year of using both intermittantly, I wound up with the Mizuno 58-degree for my lob wedge, and the Vokey 54-degree for the sand wedge. And I'm starting to hedge on that one.

Once you get used to the slightly heavier weight of the Mizunos, they can be deadly. They aren't, in my opinion, that heavy - but they are heaavier.

It's a lot like putters. ALL KINDS of different weights, for example the Scotty Cameron blade vs. the Heavy Putter. But you know what? They both work for different people.

What you prefer is the important thing. Just make sure you give both a fair try, in order to give yourself the best tools with which to enjoy the game. Good luck.

I will attest that they are just a tad heavier than most other wedges. I currently have a Cleveland CG12 in 52* and a MP-T in 58*, and I believe the MP-T is one swing weight heavier. However, most wedges are heavier in their higher lofted versions versus their gap wedge and lower lofted versions. Therefore, that may not be a fair comparison.

I like Cleveland wedges a lot but I just think I have more feel with the Mizuno, especially on those finesse shots. I am absolutely lethal with my MP-T. I feel I can confidently get up and down nearly every time. That is why I am currently in the process of trying to find a 51* MP-T wedge to compliment my 58.

I found they dug in as the sole grind is so aggressive

I have to agree with "the MP-T's are deadly". I have changed my wedges so much in the past three years b/c none of them felt the way I thought they should. Picked up the 51* and 56* Mizzys from Edwin watts used and they are exactly what the doctor ordered.

I like the weight, the club head is felt throughout the swing, even on 25%-50% swings

I love my mp-t wedges I had the older version and just upgraded to the quad cut grooves. I think all wedges are similar but wedges are all about feel so maybe they just aren't for you.

Wedges are very personal so that might have been the case for you. There might be some people who swear by them and others like you who didn't like the feel / head weight.
Personally I haven't had a chance to try them but the review on the main site seems to suggest they feel just a tad softer than the Vokeys Erik used to play.

I like them. Went from Clevelands to MP-Ts. Find myself using the 56/13 for almost everything around the green now.

I love my MP-Ts, but I've had the faces since April '08 and I need to accept that and get new ones. I wish I had relatively new ones sitting around! For whatever reason, I don't like the MP-T10s.

i think I may have misread the original post.

I had the MPT10 wedges which I hated and have never tried the normal MPT range

I played for 14 years with Ping Eye-2 clones (Pro Tour Blacks), and got pretty good with the stock PW and SW (LW never caught on).

In May 2009, I switched out my irons and wedges. Hardest part of the transition was getting wedges zeroed in. It's year 2 now, and I switched the X20 AW for the CG14. Things are looking up.

Now, if I ever get to go out and play without being rained out (7 rainouts since May)...
