Give me an Iron 3 and I hit it dead straight about 200 - 210 yds , give me a 20* Hybrid and I hit it 170 - 220 yds. "all over the place" ...... some straight, most pull draw or worse, a few fades ....... some low, some quite high

I think problem with most hybrids is that they're mostly built like fairway woods, and they are hard to hit very consistently.

I play the I15 irons ...... no 2 or 1 iron anymore .... pffffff

Still I like the hybrid from difficult lies, but are there any hybrids that will be more like irons off a tee or deck and also perform well from the rough ..... I am looking for something like a 15 - 17 degrees.

I just reread your post, that's what I get for just skimming.

A lot of guys have your problem, hybrids are really meant to replace Irons, not fairway woods and should be swung more like an Iron.

But I would give the Adams a try and the Nickent Ironwood, which can be found on the cheap...

Give the Adams Idea Pro Black series a try.

This. Their tour hybrid sort of looks like a fat iron. When you hit it pure it makes a nice suttle "click".

I used to be able to hit Hybrids ok, but now I would have better luck trying to hit them left handed. MY next set of irons will not include hybrids, but several long irons and some cleveland wedges

I hit my hybrids quite consistent. Much more consistent then a 3 or 4 iron for certain. Which I why I bought them to begin with. My 4 hybrid is 210-215 and my 5 hybrid is right at the 195-200 range. They really changed my par 5 and long par 3 game for sure.

I carry long irons as well. I really do not like hybrids, not one bit. Haven't been able to hit them any time that I've tried. I was reluctant when I gave up my 2-iron but my 3-wood has proved worthy of the bag slot so it's going to stay.

thats very good for a 20 handicapper. I can only hit my 3 hybrid around 210 consistently

I picked up a nickent 4dx hybrid in the used rack at golfsmith recently. Lately I've been hitting 3iron off the tee and use driver 5 or 6 times per round, so I wanted to try this "hybrid" idea to see if I could squeak out a few extra yards off the tee. Also wanted to see what a UST shaft felt like since I'm probably doing that with my driver. I know that's not apples to apples, but was curious about the "boardy" aspect of the shaft.

I only hit this hybrid a handful of times and the good shots were a little longer, but way too high. Looking at the GS sticker, I think it's a 15.5 degree. I'll need to hit it a few more times to see what's what, but I think I will have to get back on the hunt for a 2i with a higher kickpoint.

If you hit it long, straight, and consistent, why worry? Don't let others tell you what should or shouldn't be in your bag unless what you have isn't working!

The only hibrid I have in my bad is a Bridgestone Air Muscle 2i. These are a iron design hibrids and came in 2 and 3 iron lofts and can be difficult to find. IMO they are better than the Mizuno Hi fli's, which I've had.

I'd recommend the Mizuno 2010 MP Fli-Hi irons. Got the 3 a while back on a whim and it's exceptional. Added the 4-iron recently (just as good) and ordered the 2-iron yesterday; can't wait 'till it arrives. I find them very reliable and they are a pretty good direct replacement distance-wise for my MacGregor 1025 long irons. In fact, at the moment, the 3&4 are my favourite clubs....hope it lasts.

Yeah, my ball striking has really improved this year. I'm hitting 9 irons on holes I used to hit my 7 on last year. It's 30 yds and in where I end up loosing all my strokes. Working on that though ( :

In regards to this post, I just read a short interview with YE Yang in Golf Digest where he is praising his hybrids. I think most golfers would benefit from replacing their 3 and 4 irons with a hybrid. Maybe not a 2 handicap, but most people would I beleive.

    • I have had the flu recently which gave me plenty of time to pore over Joseph Mayo’s instagram. I have hit a ton of shots each day on carpet and a little started how easy this shot is to make. Key thought for me is bring the club “no closer to the earth.” That really resonated with me. If I really steepen the attack angle I can hit my 58* lob wedge barely an inch or two off the ground and a repeatable distance. I don’t recommend this but tried it to what the end ranges are for angle of descent. I actually think a 62*-64* wedge might be even better for this shot.
