I was viewing the PGATour.com "shot of the day" of Zach Johnson's putt on 13 on the closing day of the Colonial and I managed to find myself and my brother-in-law in the bleachers in one of the camera pans.

This greatly amuses me, probably more than it should, because now I can honestly say that "I've been in a professional golf highlight reel on pgatour.com". Unfortunately, however, I can not say it with a straight face. But I'm working on that. )

Anyway, in the interest of justifying a thread: From a spectator's perspective, golf is fairly different from most sports. You can walk around, get a different angle on every shot, you can have "floor seats" at one hole and in the "nosebleeds" for the next. Has anyone else ever found themselves on video in a golf tournament?

My appearance wasn't exciting, I actually had to pause the video just in order to see myself and there are thousands of people per televised tournament in that position, but I'm curious if anyone else has had to the luck of standing right behind a pro as they chip out of the rough, or been in some relatively foreground situation like that. Of course, links to relevant video footage, if available, would be awesome.

I took an unappreciative kid to see his hero Tiger (a few years ago) at Akron and I was in several shots. It's much easier to get on TV when you're inside the ropes, after all. Been on TV several times at The Memorial as well.

It is fun the first time you see yourself, though, yes.

Can you imagine being in one of the classic and timeless photos where somebody sinks the winning putt on 18? Think about those old black and whites where Arnie or someone is stalking a putt and it drops. If I'm ever lucky enough to get a spot there, I hope they get my good side.

The front?

Greenside on 18 at a major championship.

If I want to get my ugly mug on TV at a sporting event I just have to get seats behind the coach at an NHL game - those poor suckers are on the tube every 2 minutes.

I've never been on as a spectator, but I volunteered as a hole marshal on the 17th hole at the International at Castle Pines for 4 years, so I was in TV shots quite often... usually with my hands in the air and my back to the camera...

At the President's Cup in 2005 at RTJ, Phil Mickelson's tee shot ended in the woods right next to me. I was front and center right behind him as he played a shot off the pine needles. I saw the replay on Sportscenter that evening... pretty sweet!

There was a panoramic picture in the 2008 USGA yearbook of Tiger making his putt on 18 at Torrey Pines on Sunday to force the playoff that I was in, clear as can be. I thought it was pretty cool haha.

Purely by chance by buds and I were in just the right spot on Sunday at the 16th at Pebble for the US Open to be on air a bunch of times. Pure dumb luck, especially when they moved some ropes and closed a bridge to the green for the last few groups use. Everybody walked right by us! It was cool! Had a blast!

Yep, Welsh Open @ Celtic Manor last month.
I recorded it on SKY HD while I was at the event and new I must have been in shot when Gmac hit his drive on 16.

I checked the footage when I got home and I sure was, I am the dude in the striped polo and shorts with a black cap and shades on, wearing a rucksack and playing pocket snooker

I even took a photo of my TV LOL

Just went to the Telus World Skins game at Bear Mountain in Victoria; it had Weir, Couples, Goosen, Poulter and Villegas in it. I took my dad as a father's day present, and we managed to get right behind the tee at one of the par threes, and also up close and personal with Poluter as he waited to hit his second shot on nine. I set the PVR for it and some my dad and I quite a few times throughout both days. It was neat to show my kids "He there's dad and Papa on TV".

    • Day 85 - 2026-03-17 30 minutes of putting work, 15 chipping. Getting reacquainted with the Scottsdale green and greenside terrain. Really freaking hot here.
    • Day 9 (17 Mar 26) - Worked with alignment today to work on getting properly lined up with target point using alignment rods.  Worked on getting takeaway parallel to alignment line.  Solid session.
    • Day 212 3-17 Flow work and arching. Hit some foam balls. Recorded
    • Im struggling to hit a 3 wood any distance. Im 67 now and used to use a 3 wood all the time. My swing speed with the 3 woods is between 80-84. I am only 5'5" tall. I currently have 4- 3 woods in my used club selection. I have an old Titliest 910FD, a Taylormade Sim2, a PXG gen 4 and a Ping G430. None of these can i hit more than 180 yards and often much shorter. My driver which is a Ping G430 I hit about 210-225. Heres the crazy thing, I carry a Taylormade Sim2- 7 wood that I hit 175-185. I carry an older titliest H1 Hybrid 23* that i hit 165-175. All yardages are with carry. When i hit both the Hybrid and the 7 wood they feel like very solid strikes yet I never feel like i hit any of these 3 woods solid. All of these clubs have regular shafts of different manufacturers. I would like to be able to hit a 3 wood 200 yards. Im thinking I need to start playing with shafts, Maybe even shorten them some. I have equipment to pull shafts and set swingweights and reglue. I have a bunch of reg flex old driver shafts that i could shorten. My driver, 7 wood and Hybrid are all D3 Swingweight. The 3 woods are D3 as well.  Where would you start? Thanks Rod
    • This was a great read from start to finish. Ive been watching the LAB putters for 3 or 4 years now. Ive never been a good putter and Ive worked at putting but i just dont seem to get better at it. I play at least 3 times a week with a 11.6 Hdcp and i have owned probably 20+ putters over my last 10 years. Ive even tried the broomstick putters which at first I thought helped but as time went on i missed just as many putts. For me it comes down to nerves which i struggle to control when putting. I always feel like i have someone leaning over me watching my every move when i putt. I had a friend I play with this fall go get fitted for a LAB and he came back all excited, he bought one and he was already a player that probably averages 32 putts a round. So i think I would say hes a good putter. I used his putter a few times and the feeling i get compared to my putter which right now is a Ping Vault 2.0 Piper and just before that an Evnroll ER5v and before that Spyder Ghost........anyway the feeling I notice was that i can take the putter back without it twisting some. At least thats the feeling i get. I dont know if i would be a better putter with a LAB putter but after this year i will know as I went and was fitted and have one on the way. I can only hope it makes a differnce. If not ive got plenty of putters to fall back on!  Rod
