Does a range before a round make a difference?

Thanks for all the responses.

Several years ago, I read an article that range session lowers 1 stroke per round. I guess it doesn't apply to me.

I should man up and pay $6 to hit 30 balls prior to every round. I tend to blow up the first 3 holes before settling down. In my last round, I played the first 4 holes 8 over, then the last 14 holes 10 over.

Now the question is, if I get to the course 1 hour before tee time, should I putt first or go to range first? What's the correct sequence?

I can't say that practice lowers my score, but it makes me feel more comfortable on the first few holes. I prefer to hit about 20 balls before hand, about four balls for each of my five most used clubs.

i usually hit a few balls before each round to get a rhythm going but today the range was full, so I just putted for about 30 min before teeing off..... and i shot my best ever, 88.

Sorry to be a jackass but how do you have a 15.4 HC and your best round was an 88? I know if you are playing supper tough couses from the back tees that might work but it seems a little odd to me.

As for the question I don't like to warm up too much. I am just as successful if I take a few swings before my round without a ball in front of me as I am when I hit balls on the range. I actually find I play worse when I hit a lot of shots on the range. One thing that definitely makes me play worse is when I get to the couse too early, I can't help but think about my first tee shot and this makes me tight and mechanical on the first hole. I think I am echoing a lot of people here when I say try both a few times and see what works for you.
