After all these years of carrying around a small collection of miscellaneous wedges of all makes, I am gonna learn how to use them with lessons. I figure poor wedge play costs me around 6 strokes per 18. That ***** for me. So; which wedges should I get, what make? Should I get a matching set? Does the shaft mean that much? What say you? Thanks...

I would reccomend vokeys, they offer more greenside spin and more control. They also come in a variety of lofts and bounces to suit everyone and their playing conditions. A matching set would be good, my recommendation for vokeys would be 48*,52*,56*

Wedges & putters are like the type of women ones likes, very personal. There are a lot of good wedges out there. Personally I perfer a heavier headed wedge so I have Niki VR's. But the most important thing is that YOU like them. So if you can go and hit different wedges, that would be best. One thing about the Niki VR wedges; they put a ton of spin on the ball and subsequently you will loose some distance. They also come standard with a C grind as do Mizuno R series I believe. I've heard ppl with the Mizuno wedges also complaining of loosing distance. The lose of distance isn't a big deal to me b/c I rarely do full shots with my wedges anyway. I prefer to have the same brand of sw & lw. My wedges go 48*, 54*, 60*. I use the 54* the most.

As for shafts, at your hc I'd just get the wedge(s) and get used to them first. Once that happens and you are comfortable with your wedges then you may want to consider different shafts. Again, personally I perfer 5.5 rifle spinner wedge shafts in my wedges, but that is just me.

I think you should go down to your local golf shop and try some out. This is a highly subjective area. I know a lot of people like Titleist Vokeys but I personally think they're overrated and rather pricey. I agree with the Nike VR's and the Mizuno R series but I consider those to be for lower handicap players. Take a look at Cleveland CG-15's and CG 12's and if you want to spend even less for a really good wedge try the old Cleveland 588's. You can buy them for a song on Ebay these days.

* Consider getting a set: You might look at an Adams Watson model in 52, 56, 60. (Not sure if you do LW or not). If the wedges match, it's easier to build them into a system.
* Shaft does matter. I have a CG14 and an X-Forged, but both have same shaft.

If you do a wedge "system," you'll need to practice it and get your distances down. Some people do a range/distance card:
.......Quarter..... Half...... 3/4....... Full
PW
GW
SW
LW (This line blank on my card)

Depends on how much time you have.

Note: Consider adding a What's In My Bag section to your sig line. That way we can tell what club mix you have, and how you approach the game. Knowing the irons you play would give us a little hint on wedges.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I'd only get the adams ones if money is an issue
if you can afford 3 wedges no problem just get any of them that look right to you. They all perform pretty well
Vokey CG TM nike miz etc etc etc
I think vokeys are overrated but they're still good wedges
They're all good

Rockbottomgolf has the Adams Tom Watson wedge set on sale right now.

That would be my recommendation-I really like the shape and weight of the Adams TW wedges, regardless of price. If they said Cleveland or Vokey on the back they'd sell for $100 each easy.

(WJHL) — The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) men’s golf team has received an apology from Delta Airlines after a video that has over 5 million views showed staff haph… I feel for the team! 15 years ago I changed planes in Atlanta on my way to Las Vegas. With a window seat on the Hartsville tarmac I could see my golf bag, in a hard case, tossed onto the conveyor belt, and overhang the edge, to the cargo section. As it rose, I saw it fall off from about 20’. Couldn’t see the impact. When I landed and retrieved the case, it was destroyed but the clubs were okay!   When I filed a claim with Delta they put me through an administrative nightmare and I finally gave up. Still have that case in my attic!
