What is the normal ball position for the driver looking for a straight shot. I've heard inside left heel but when I put it out there it always slices. Guess what I'm saying is can you hit a draw or straight shot with the ball on the left heel as my body says no lol

If you slide when it's way out there just push it pack 1 ball width until it straightens out for you. Might be a bandaid fix but it will help you out, so why not.

ball position is different for everyone so you have to find the one that works for the type of shot you want to hit. If you're playing it up there and slicing..move it back some.

If you put it at the inside left heel (if thats the same as your shoulder joint) you are pretty much at the lowpoint of your swing arc, and if you slice it from there the ballposition has nothing to with the bad result.

If the ball is too far forward, the club will be arcing to the left, making it hard to slice the ball unless you're subconsciously holding back your hands in an attempt to keep the clubface square. Too much will leave the clubface open. Check also to see if the ball is not too far away from you, which will make you reach out more and hold your hands back more, exacerbating this effect.

I believe the ball should be inside your left heel. I'm not sure about the advice to move it about to fix the slice. That sounds incorrect to me. There is more than one aspect to a swing which could cause a slice and I don't see why you would start moving the ball about when you have it in theory- correctly positioned.

For a slice, I strengthened my grip and left my ball position where you said it was, off the left heel. That made a world of difference for me. I had the same problem with a major slice for a while after the season began, and a change in grip ended up being the fix for me. Turn your left hand more to the right, assuming you're a righty, and keep where your thumbs meet your hand lining up with your right shoulder, set up your normal way, and lean every so slightly to the right and give it a good swing and see what happens. It feels weird at first, but gave me straight and LONG drives pretty consistantly now. I gained over 30 yards because the ball goes straight.

I have been struggling as of late with my ball slicing. This is mostly due to the fact that I changed courses to one that is more difficult and requires me to use my driver. I tried to keep it inside my left heel and couldn't stop the slice. I tried lots of things and nothing was helping. I simply moved the ball up in my stance about an inch and the slice went away. It worked for me.

I can only speak from experience but when a ball feels too far forward, I know because I can feel my body reaching for it. What happens is that I inevitably hold off the clubface while I'm reaching and thus, a slice. I also don't play my driver off my left heel, its just inside the left heel because thats the spot that works for me to hit straight shots. if I wanna hit a fade/slice I'll move it up some because I know what will happen. As for draws, I am just not a draw player so I am out on that one, lol.

Sorry, I don't get this.

    • I have had the flu recently which gave me plenty of time to pore over Joseph Mayo’s instagram. I have hit a ton of shots each day on carpet and a little started how easy this shot is to make. Key thought for me is bring the club “no closer to the earth.” That really resonated with me. If I really steepen the attack angle I can hit my 58* lob wedge barely an inch or two off the ground and a repeatable distance. I don’t recommend this but tried it to what the end ranges are for angle of descent. I actually think a 62*-64* wedge might be even better for this shot.
