So I took my new driver and irons to the range today. I hit my irons better than I expected considering I went from an SGI (Rapture clones) to the Gigagolf c510. The driver on the other hand... I hit a few good shots but, there were a lot of hooks. My previous driver was a 9.5° Rapture clone with an MCS 75 R/S shaft. The shaft has a mid-high kick point, 3.4° torque and a weight of 75g. I hit this driver long and straight but, high with an occasional fade. The new driver is a Gigagolf 8° Verve 17 Ti Ion with a UST Proforce V2 X-flex. This shaft has a mid kick point, 2.9° torque and a weight of 66g. I don't know if I was over swinging, it didn't feel like it. Like I said, I hit a few straight, but the majority were hooks. The ball trajectory was much lower than the clone which I like. I just need some help figuring out the hook situation. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what my swing speed is. The MCS is rated for 95-105mph. The UST is rated for 100-115. With my old driver I was routinely getting 300-315 yards (measured with GPS). Not sure of the distance with the new driver as I haven't played a round with it yet. I may have just been excited today using the new driver. Possibly rolling my hands?

Use the old driver. At 300-315 it sounds like a gooder.

There's a problem with the old one. It has a crack that is about 1.5" long about .25" behind the face on the bottom. New driver was out of necessity, unfortunately.

If it cracked I would imagine Giga would replace it.

perhaps you had a slice with your old one so your swing got grooved to change that with the driver, now that you have a different one, your swining the same way yet with the new one theres no need for it, generating the hook.

You were hitting the R/S flex shaft 300 to 315 yards, so you replaced it with an X flex that you are now hooking?

Sorry - does not compute.

How so? The shaft I selected was recommended by the selection tool on the Giga site. I know this is not the ideal method for picking a shaft but, it is what was available to me. I may go to the local golf shop today to get my swing speed measured. The 2 shafts recommended were the UST Proforce V2 X-flex or the Grafalloy Prolaunch Blue X-flex.

This sounds like a swing issue. I'd post a video in the instruction forum, first.

Second...

If you are hitting drives 300+ and now playing forged blades, why go clone with the driver? This should be an accurate, consistent club. Who is to say that variations in weighting or manufacturing tolerances of the clone head aren't causing inconsistency?

Gigagolf isn't a "clone" company, they make quality stuff. The driver itself might be more offset than you're used to. But I do agree with delav's first point, seems most likely to be a swing issue. Post a video of your swing, or get a quick lesson from your local pro.

Well, the OP states several times he considers his clubs "clones." Semantics aside, we can all agree that they are not an OEM brand. With that said, It would be helpful to have the OP hit the new driver on a launch monitor and report back with a swing and the numbers. He's chosen a good shaft, and likely needs to get used to the feel of a new head and shaft.

The old driver is a clone. The new driver is from Gigagolf. Played a round today. Shot an 87. 3/4 swing to get the driver to go straight. It's a lot different playing from a 240yd drive rather than 300yds. The new irons feel great. Hit them solid.

Went and got my swing speed checked after my round. 98mph 174yard carry with a 6i. I'm thinking the shaft may be a little too stiff. I may go to a 75g S-flex.

your swing speed with your iron and driver are going to be way different. You seem like a young guy with a swing speed so high.

Just got into golf recently and I'm actually starting to really like it..

Pops gave me this iron and told me I can keep or sell, he's an avid golfer yet I don't know anything about the equipment.
Can anyone tell me if this is any good or cheap ?

Played another round today. Still can't hit the new driver. All hooks. Switched to the old driver at the turn. First drive was 310. Next drive was 283 on the fly. The ball hit on the front face of a hill and stopped so I could measure flight. I'm thinking the shaft is too stiff.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
