I am sure that this has been beat into the ground but please help with this situation. My wife started to play this year and I bought her a top-flite box set. There are some problems her first off she has a hard time twisting her back to have a good swing she is definetly a sweeper. So the issue is that her driver, fairway wood, and hybrid she hits straight as an arrow but does not get any distance and no air with them (her driver goes about 50 yrds and it is all roll) the set has a 7, 9 and wedge. She does get some air with them and honestly can get her 7 iron about as far as her driver. Like I said she has a hard time twisting her back. So my question is I found some Cobra 3400 i/xh lady irons on ebay. It is a 4-9w+sw iron set and looks to be in good shape. Would this be a good way to go? If this was a way to go I would take her driver, fairway, and hybrid out of the bag and just carry these and a putter of course. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys I got her convinced to try the sport and she enjoys it when it works but I am afraid she is going to get frustrated and give up. I also found some Cobra Gravity Back on 3Balls.com. Any help is great!

I just got my wife her 1st set last week... I got her the Top Flite Black Max ladies set. I took some swings with them and found them to be good clubs. I don't think the clubs are the problem in your case. My wife is pretty bad too and can't hit any of her woods yet. She hits her 6 iron about 75 yards and her hybrid 4i about 100, but her consistency is just not there yet. I try to teach my wife a little bit at a time and just make sure that she's having fun above all else. I share the same fear as you so I try to focus on making sure she's having fun and I tell her being on the course is a great way to work on her tan. LOL As she learns something new and sees a little bit of results she gets thrilled and that gets her through some of the bad shots.... I guess it's not unlike any of us.

New equipment won't help, patience will. My wife started playing about 10 years ago, and could not hit woods, she would tee off with a 5 iron at first, worked her way up to a 5 wood in a year or so, then a 3 wood, and finally a driver after about 2 more years, and some lessons. She now has a Womens Burner, that she hits about 165 - 170, and a set of TM RAC OS irons she was fitted for a few years ago, with senior shafts, 1 1/4 inches short. I let her go at her own pace, no pressure, and now we play every Sunday. She maintains a 23 - 24 handicap, and only touches the clubs on Sundays. She has the swing to go lower, but she enjoys the game at the level she is at, and has fun with it.

The lessons won't hurt, but I think it just takes time. My wife's long ball was about 50 yards on a good day for a while. Now, after a couple of months, she is slapping the ball 150 -170 yards down the fairway with the big stick and a very nice swing. My 12 year old is doing the sweeping style of golf, but I also believe that after she plays some and loosens up, she'll come around as well. I think that at first, they are just so focused on contacting that little ball with this long stick, they don't feel comfortable making a full swing. It'll happen.

I must be lucky. My gf has only been playing a month and has a 100 yard 8 iron and a 160 yard drive after carry. We Already play "who can get closer to the flag" at the range and "horse" on the putting green and she beats me just as often as I do. It's so much fun. I just can't get her Ass on the course yet. She keep saying she is not ready.

Have her take some lessons. They should reveal one of two things.
* Irons are OK, but she needs different woods. Then, you could get her a high-loft driver, a 5W and a hybrid that she can hit. She might need different shaft flex and head design than her current clubs offer her.
* Her swing had glitches, and she can hit the woods and hybrids with proper instruction.

Please don't take this personally, but you're a 26 HDCP. A pro could help her get the swing tweaked much more quickly than you can.

I'll help my wife on static stuff - alignment is too far right, the ball too far forward in your stance - but major swing motions I let the pro handle.

Focus, connect and follow through!

This. I really don't think it's the clubs that matter. If you're a beginner, it's all about the swing (and probably is for a long time before the specific clubs you're using really start making THAT big a difference). As someone above said, you may not be good enough to really tweak her swing properly; it's not an easy task. I jus started off this summer with my gf and she's really enjoying it taking lessons with me. You see faster and more consistent results taking lessons. You also don't want her developing bad habbits that are harder to lose later down the line. My gf's still not hitting the ball THAT far, but it's just a matter of time and patience.

Cheers,
