I'm debating between the Nike VR Split Cavity and the Callaway Diablo Forged. I was able to find a place that had an outdoor range so I could test some ball flights with several clubs and the Nike and Callaway came out on top. I'm having a hard time making my decision between the two so I need some help! Does anyone have any experience with either of these clubs that can help me out?

if it matters, I also hit the TaylorMade Burner, R9 & R9TP, Cobra S2 Forged, Cleveland CG7 Black Pearl, and the Mizuno MX-200 & 300.

Any and all advice is welcome!

Try the VR blades, there has been threads of them saying they are easier to hit then the split.

YMMV, but I would never pay what is being asked for the Diablo Forged. They're nice clubs, but I prefer the MX-200 or MX-300, or even the VR blades as mentioned above, and they are hundreds cheaper. I'd also look into the Callaway X-Forged-surprisingly easy to hit, and at a 9 handicap you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever. Also hundreds cheaper.

I have the split cavity's and I love them. They are very easy to hit, however I have not hit the blades. I went from Callaway Iron's to the Split cavity and didn't look back. GPP Golf has them for 499.99, great deal if you ask me. Thats where I bought mine from, and had them within 2 days of ordering

Coming from Blades, to Split's back to Blades....the blades are much much easier for me.

On a more serious note, I def love my Callaway X-Forged. When I was looking for a new set of irons, I wanted ones that I knew were going to be forgiving with the benefits of a player's iron. The X-forged does just that. Other's I encourage you to check out are Mizuno MP-62's. A close second for me, they are amazing irons.

I'm not a big fan of Callaway, but those X-forged are fantastic. I was admiring a set that one of the guys at the range just picked up and he let me hit a few balls with them. Great view from the top and they felt super smooth. Check out the MX-200's or 300's too. I love my 200's.

I think I offer the best advice considering I have played both. Im not going by "Oh my friend's, Dad's, Boss said they are easier to hit"

Nor did I hit 20 balls at some Nike Demo either.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
