wow if you went anymore inside the club might hit your backside, your right arm is just completely collapsing to the inside, work on your takeaway and get that plane more upright, looks to me you,re coming over the top on the downswing too

yeah, it needs some work. Focus on your take away like clubspent said. Taking it away inside like that is causing you to make that over-the-top move club also mentioned. After your takeway, the club is in a bad position, so you compensate with that hitchy little move you make during the transition from your backswing into your downswing.

Far from a pro here, just a beginner, but here's some stuff I saw:

- Your takeaway is far inside and flat. From your address position, you want to be pulling the club away mostly with your shoulders and not your arms. When the club is parallel to the ground on the takeaway, it should be pointing down your toe-line and be parallel to you ball target line.

- At the top of your backswing you want your hands to be above your head. Yours are far back (caused by your flat takeaway). It also looks like your right knee points out during your backswing (not sure due to quality of video), but try and keep that leg flexed and stationary.

- Your downsing starts with you lunging at the ball and coming in over the top. You'll notice how you're "jumping out of your socks" at impact in order to try and compensate for the steep downswing and having gotten closer to the ball.

A face-on view would help with noticing what your hips are doing and whether you have the proper weight shift during your swing. Try and start your downswing with your hips.

I'm working on pretty much all the same stuff with my pro right now, so I'm right there with you! :)

I am not a pro, but here is my thoughts.

I think the first and most pressing item is that your backswing is too long. What I mean is your shoulders stop but your arms continue on and then the only thing you can do is re-route to a over-the-top looking move. This would be more evident if I could see the face on view. For me I have to "feel" like I am only swinging 1/2 to 3/4, when you view your swing after doing this you will see the backswing is longer than you think, but this helps me to sync my shoulders and arms. If you are familiar with TGM terms I am talking about extensor action.

I would need a face on to help more.

Yeah you,re coming over the top, Id say around 80% of golfers do this, my dad just came back from a lesson saying the pro told him he was doing the same, work on the takeaway, the plane and downswing sequencing and you,ll improve dramatically, good luck dude

I'm going to have to disagree with a lot of the comments here thus far.

First, though, let me say that it's incredibly difficult to analyze a video you can only really watch in full speed. Can you send the original file so that a frame-by-frame examination may be done? Do you have a face-on view? Did you read this article? http://thesandtrap.com/playing_tips/filming_your_swing

Second, to the analysis... your hands don't appear to go inside very much, and the clubhead less than people seem to think. Yes, you come over the top from there, but the backswing could probably be a bit more HANDS inside (see my thread about "deep hands" - linked to from the post in my signature) and the CLUBHEAD a bit more outside.

Weight likely has to go more forward coming down as well but that's tough to tell from this view. Left shoulder down more too. But beyond that, tough to say without the original videos.

well, Obviously you are taking the club too far in than what is usually **recommended**. My approach to golf is a lot simpler than other people. If you are used to taking the club too far back on the inside on your backswing, start your downswing more toward right field. The problem here is that too far inside and you are starting the downswing along the target line and that will usually cause a over the top move.

Never had a golf lesson and never care to have one.Don't read any of the golf pub anymore but isn't it just common sense that if my body is coming inside on the backswing, in order to square it, I have to start it outside on the downswing. If My backswing is more upright, I start my downswing on a more downward path,If I am going straighter back, I follow staighter through,etc...............................

I don't know about other people,but just focusing on reciprocracy, I could hit the ball pretty straight with as many different plane as I want... and I could even work the ball -cut it, draw it, hit it high and low depending on the plane of that reciprocracy.

Geez, all that, and really my point is that another option is that you try to bump your hip toward right field to start your downswing.That shallow out your club and start it more inside-out. It might not be the ideal way,but it could be a quick and dirty fix.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.  
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛 
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
