I was wondering if any of you have ever experienced sore hands, particularly when you first started playing or maybe at the beginning of each season?

My hands are sore, almost like a tight pain. Both pinky fingers are very sore, especially around the knucle on the finger (the middle knuckle). I'm not sure if they are like any other muscle when you first start using it, like say when you lift weights your muscles get sore at first, or if it is something else.

I really cant think of anything else it could be related too. Ive been going to the range like 4-5 times a week lately and since Ive been going that much they started to hurt me.

If anyone has ever had this and no A) why it happens or B) what I can do to help the pain that would be great.

I used to have this same problem. I switched to an oversized grip and the pain in my knuckles have gone away. I've been very happy with the new grips... Just a thought

You could be gripping too tight. What type of grip do you use?

Just started, its typical. My hands get sore when i first hit the range all year, but then your hands get use to them. What happens is that the golf club will rub in your hands, it just does. but it shouldn't be so much to cause blisters. But this friction will harden your hands a bit. Just like if you walk barefoot for a while your feat will develop hardened pads on them, its to protect the feat. Don't worry your hands wont turn rock hard, but they do adapt to swinging the golf club. If you do develop blisters, look into getting new grips on the golf club, or lightening the golf grip.

    • Day 8 - Full swings with my 3H. One of my more consistent clubs, but the sim numbers weren’t good.
    • Day 260: range session. Worked on my wrist stuff, while still keeping the weight shift stuff. Hit a lot of pull hooks.
    • Nah. I'll take eyes 2" inside the ball rather than directly over the ball. No good putters have their eyes outside the ball that I've ever seen. Few are over the ball. Almost all are inside somewhere. And the OP said "at least 0.5"."
    • 0.5" inside? Seriously, the ball is just over 2" so .5" inside is only 1.5" from dead center...thats close enough for most people to call it "eyes over the ball". I see people at courses 6" plus inside the ball or even worse, their heads may be over their shoes. That's what you don't want anyone to do. .5" inside for all practicable purposes is over the ball.
    • I used to have a re-gripping issue that caused hooks. The re-gripping happens at the top of the backswing usually in an attempt to get the shaft more horizontal. The solution is simple though. The last three fingers of your lead hand must grip the club firmly through the backswing and at the top. You cannot "relax them" or let them loosen at the top. If you're trying to get to parallel you need to do it with more rotation and not loosening the grip. Anytime you loosen those three fingers at the top, you will ALWAYS regrip the club into a hooded position. Sometimes that's the only fix you need. I would at least try that before trying to rehab your swing.
