+1 The odds of him losing the tournement to someone who shoots 59 has to be something rediculous!!

I missed the broadcast because I was away this weekend, but I really wish I could have seen this whole spectacle. It sounds like it was a good meltdown. And damn, it would have been really cool to see someone shoot a 59 on the final day to win by 1. That's just insane.

I saw it live, and the announcers all kept saying,

"Ooo, bad break. He just has to tap in this putt now and forget about it." "Okay, just tap in the putt now." "Let it go, tap in the putt." "You don't want to dwell on it like this, just tap in that putt." "The longer you stand there, the worse it gets. Just tap that putt in and move to the next hole." It was like they were begging him to move on. But he just kept standing there shaking his head.

I like Overton because he reminds me of myself - wears his emotions on a sleeve out there. If I remember correctly, there's a youtube clip of Appleby dropping the F-bomb on a live NBC telecast a few years back after he duck-hooked one into the water when he was in contention, so he's no golden child when it comes to that. I have to hand it to him for the 59 though.

I finally saw this highlight and while I agree that it was an unlucky break and he had a right to be frustrated, he didn't have to show his frustration to the extent that he did - He looked like a huffing and puffing 13 year old.

Nah, I think it definitely threw it off line, no way he reacts like that unless something definitely threw it off line. And dude, honestly, I probably would've reacted in similar manner (just being honest) if I had that much at stake (my first PGA victory)...

What a ridiculous exhibition. Obviously, it meant a lot, we all know how much he wanted to win, we don't know what it's like etc. etc., but if that was your 12 year old behaving like that you'd be embarrassed. It's not uncommon for players who miss putts to stare at the ground and shake their heads just so the gallery know that it "wasn't their fault", but this was outrageous. What a jerk. The funny thing was that a few moments before they were showing some of his putts a while back athe the Wyndham, and he was doing it there too.

I guess Tiger is starting to rub off on other tour players. His rant was no worse than many of the Tiger F-bombs.

It's not the swearing, it's the pouting and foot stomping and hands on hips and bending down and head shaking and all the rest of it.

BTW I watched it about 10 times and it didn't seem to deviate at all. He bent down to pick it up when it was half way there. It was nothing like the "Come on wind!" when Tiger or Sergio miss an easy pin placement.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

So the guy makes $648,000 instead of $1,080,000. He'll live.

Not sure which point you are trying to make. If I lost almost 1/2 million dollars because of one little spike mark I would be through the roof as well! I'd probably break my putter in half and stab my caddie in the heart with it.

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

I'll admit that wasn't my best arguing point, but he is still making well over 1/2 a mil. He's a big boy, now he has to act like one.

And I'll admit that you are right... missing a putt and still making $650,000 is a good "problem" to have.

I watched that putt, and was a bit taken back by the act. As a Professional, one should act like it, regardless of rank and standing. These folks aren't robots, but learning to maintain control is taught to most every child before adolecence. Outburst should be penalized, like other sports do. Young minds emulate what their Pros do, it's a fact. the missed putt was his fault, pure and simple, and to 1-blame the spike mark, and 2-act like a brat was uncalled for. As a PGA player, the responsiblility to PROPERLY read your line and any impedements. I don't care if it was for 1/2 Mil or a beer between buddies, the reputation and respect for the sport expects better behavior. besides, he made more $$ over those 4 days, than about everyone in the entire state where the Greenbriar Classic was played do in 5 years.. I oughtta know.. I'm a born and bred WV'ian.....
