Try out different balls and see how you like them. A $40+ ball might, as others have suggested, hurt your game more than it helps. I love hitting V1x, but I lose too many balls to play it at this moment. I'm using $20-ish balls and buy them used from Ebay. I could shoot 80 with a V1x, but I could also do it with a RockFlite. The ball plays a very little role on my score. A hook might hook more, but a hard shot into the green might stop more. My experience is that it doesn't make a whole lot of difference for me.

15+ strokes per round. That is a big difference!

Indeed. The higher spin ball was affecting my longer shots so consistently that it was adding a stroke on nearly every hole. Needless to say, I played only three rounds with those balls before giving up on them.
