I mean, there's nothing really great to say about hitting a ball 20-30 degrees off line. But when I block a ball my swing feels right, the contact is great, the distance is longer than my normal drives.....but oh the disappointment when I look up to see it heading for the next fairway.

I hit alot of blocks myself (especially off the tee), and i will attest that they feel horrible.

I hear ya. The quick turning action "feels" like I'm clearing and getting ready for a good strike, but then the ball is struck a bit too late in the swing. The result for me is like one-half club length longer in distance, but outside right the intended target.

Among other things, I need to better brace the left side to not get too far inside. That and getting better balanced. And...

For me, it usually feels like I've jumped on an inside fastball and jacked it over the LF fence.

I think it feels good because you're really "getting" into the ball. You're unleashing hell and it takes off fast. I have this when my hands are tight to the body, but my shoulders are just a little too open at impact. Once in a while, if it's saved with the hands, it ends up as bomb straight, but those are far to few.

I think this is why a lot of people throw it over the top as well. You feel like you're crushing it, and you might be, but the results are obviously poor.

It also feels good when I swing on it properly at 80% with something still in the tank and I see the ball out in front as my head naturally comes up. Those end up better :)

I don't know...blocks feel terrible to me.

Hard hooks feel great, though

That's funny, I have the same feeling. If I do hit a block it's usually going to be with my driver and that SOB flies forever. With the irons it doesn't feel great at all, I can tell instantly (not sure why).

The ugliest feeling is a hard hook with the iron though.

This is curious, I was thinking the exact same thing the other day, after hitting a blocked drive OB. I aim for a draw, so my well hitted blocks get me into a lot of trouble.

I rarely hit blocked drives, but often hit blocked irons, and my blocked irons also usually feel great.

Probably because a typical block is a square hit...just not square to your target line. You make solid contact on the face with an in-to-out swing path. The usual cause is that you get the club "stuck" behind and you never have a chance to get it square to the target line so the ball flies dead straight with typical driver distance (just well right of your intended target line).

The compensation is a pull hook. When you try to compensate for getting stuck by really rolling or flipping the hands hard at the bottom in an attempt to keep the ball from going right.
