Realistically if I am within earshot of anyone screaming ANYTHING on a golf course, I'm ducking! The closer it sounds, the faster I hit the deck.

+1 well said

I hate to point out the ironic humor here, but your name is O.B. Right....just thought that was funny.

HAHA I was thinking the same thing.

While "FORE RIGHT" (or various other additional information) might be helpful, the first priority has got to be making sure the "FORE" is clearly audible and shouted as soon as you recognize that it's necessary. Don't wait while you figure out what else to say, and don't shout "fore RIGHT"...

I don't see the problem with this. If you're familiar with the course you likely know where he's hitting from based on where you hear his voice. Members at Lake View here in Erie will often yell things like this and virtually everyone knows what they mean and appreciate the heads up. Others will offer variations like "Fore on Two!" or something if there's time.

You are basing your judgement on the fact everyone is a member?

So people that pay-and-play shouldn't be protected from flying balls?

It's a second, slightly panicked, more urgent and much louder "FORE!!" that really sends everyone ducking for cover. Better to have everyone on the course take shelter just in case.

I yell a good, loud, clear "FORE"

Then, if I'm reasonably certain of where it's heading on the fly, I might yell again but instead of saying left or right I'll yell the hole number, so I'll follow a "FORE" by "FORE 17" - By the way, I drove the 17th green yesterday afternoon...from the 11th tee. Made par, though.

Couldn't agree more. The first FORE means I hit it way off line. The second, louder FORE means I actually see it coming for you!

No. If you hear "fore (anything)" and aren't sure if it's coming for you or not, duck and cover.

If you hear "fore right" and know that's someone hitting away from you (or you're on their left), then you're fine, regardless of the course and how familiar you may be with it.

My issue was that I only heard "Right". From 150 yards away, it's much easier to hear "FORE" than "fore RIGHT" or even "FORE RIGHT" . .and the Right part doesn't matter, anyway, except to people playing in imaginary golf tournaments. "FORE ON THE TEE" would've been fine.

    • Great year last year. Who winning this year could be another special story? Brooks? Spieth? Or Aberg? An AM? I dont know if anything could top last year
    • I love Rancho Park too!  I don't get out there much due to the 405 issues (Im in Santa Clarita) but I do try and get out there every now and then...last time out was in January where I eagled 17 (left green) with a holed 145 yard third shot ! Rancho is a great course! And at 24 bucks weekday with the city card, an absolute steal!
    • I have played PGA West, at least one or two courses in there, but I am not sure if I've played any of the courses used to host the Hope. I played a course that I think both isn't PGA West and is host to the Hope a few years ago, possibly at a TST outing, but I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the right one. I have played Rancho Park plenty of times (exactly half of my sub-80 rounds were there!) and Wilson/Harding.  Rancho Park might be my favorite golf course among those I've played more than a half dozen times.   Hopefully I'll get a chance to play TPC Scottsdale, maybe this August or September, and at some point I think there was a PGA Tour event in Las Vegas, I should get up there and play those course(s).
