Can't get any family or buddies to go golfing tomorrow, my wife is out of town all day, so I am heading out on my own to a beautiful 27 hole course for a marathon day of golf. While I would love to share the day with a buddy or 2 (or 3), I must say I'm looking forward to playing at my own pace and as many holes as I want to play ...

I play solo once a week. It's relaxing.

Ill be solo tomorrow as well. I am just going to play a cheap par 3 course to work on my short game. Not to hijack here, but would it be counter productive to practice short game on a course with poor greens (slow, carpet-like)?

Oh Hijack away ... as to your question ... as long as you are working on your overall technique (solid contact, set-up, etc), I doubt that the green's condition would make much difference in the long run.

I really wanted to play on Friday alone, I was so pumped during work thinking of playing by myself listening to my iPod, but when it rains, it pours. My car's ball joint broke and I had no way of getting there :(

Have fun! I just completed a marathon week of solo twilight golf to celebrate the last days of summer (or so I tell my wife . . she hasn't heard about my plans to celebrate the amazing colors of fall yet, lol).

I played some great rounds (by my standards), got paired with some really interesting and a few good players and even had the course all to myself on 2 occassions. Last night, my playing partner and I basically used the last hole as a driving range for 20 minutes to use up the last minutes of daylight since we were the only ones out there.

My girlfriend is in the Navy reserves, which means one weekend a month she's got to go to the base. I've gone along three times since we've been together (Almost two years). Drop her off at work and onto the base's golf course.

Driving range by 7:10 every morning. Tee off by 7:30, and then play as much as I can on a really nice 9 holer both Sat. and Sunday. I walk. Although I have to walk off when she calls me for lunch, and again at the end of her day, I have a course essentially to my self. I average 60 holes a weekend.

Green fee's are dirt cheap, and when we add in the hotel fee, since I'm not a service member, it still is a great deal.

Marathon? Yes. Great way to just clear your mind, of course. Work on all aspects of the game, since I'm very familliar with the layout by the second round. And this 9 holer is a tough course. 8 out of the 9 holes could be superimposed on any other golf course and no one would know the difference.

Fringe benift. We got to play both couses at the Oceana Naval Air station, Virginia this past spring, as my GF plays also... Right now we're .500 (4 each). So the next time we get out... unfortunatly she'll probaby win. And, I'm going with her in either Oct. or November depending on the weather. Another relaxing weekend... even if she beats me.

27 holes on a beautiful course today (walking). Shot 41, 46, 42 with a great burger for lunch between 18 and 19. Then on the way home I stopped by my local par 61 executive course and played another 9 holes (used a cart this time as my legs were a bit worn out) - shot 5 over there. All in all it was a great day!

I only played 11 holes. The course was fairly crowded as it usually is on Sundays but that wasn't the problem. Everyone playing in front of me was not only absolutely dreadful, they took 25 minutes per hole and had just the worst etiquette. I skipped over this group only to encounter two more groups that were exactly the same. Ugh. I shot a 46 for 9 holes which is pretty darn good for me.

I love playing solo. Usually two or three times a week. My cheap ass, and whipped friends can't get out as much as me. XD. But I do love getting to play with them. Playing alone lets me focus more on ME, and not US. If you know what I mean.

I get about 2-3 rounds a month solo (thanks to a wife who works opposite schedule of mine and son in daycare!). I don't mind it at all. I usually go out around 1pm and walk, and in the summer its about 100F+, so most of my friends don't go - they'd rather start at 830am. One of these days I'm going to take an out of town trip on my own.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
