Wow!! You must have a golf related job or job where it is important to play. There is no way a married guy outside the industry gets to play that much golf. Are you in the industry? Does your wife play?

No and Yes are the answers... 3-4 rounds every weekend, occasional 1-2 rounds late afternoons, use all vacation + personal days for thursdays/fridays to make a long weekend trip out of it

The second "yes" is the key. She plays a lot and she's hooked as well - much easier to explain to her that I simply HAVE TO play when it's 70' and sunny She dropped her hcp from 31 to 24 this year, just a sign of better things to come !

If presented with such a contract, I'd be looking at dissolving another "agreement" of sorts. Bye bye wife!

Amen to that, in fact thats how it went with my first wife. She said golf or her, and well......I still play golf. I play around 75 to 100 rounds a year. Like I said my wife hates it and complains occasionally, but she realizes she might not like what happens if she gave any type of contract or ultimatum involving golf.

That is a lot of golf. Even if I had the time I'm not at a point where I "need" to play 36 holes in a day.

I'm focusing on the second part of your response. I'm trying to get my wife to play so "we'll have something to do together when we get older." It probably won't happen since she thinks it is nuts to walk around on a well manicured lawn in 80 degree temps for 4-5 hours while swinging sticks at a small ball.

Damn, it does sound like a pretty crappy game when you put it like that.

But we all love it.

You could always try telling her that if she doesn't want to learn golf, you won't take your stick anywhere near her lawn, regardless of how well manicured it is, maybe that'll help things along.

Nah, probably not.

Welcome to the forum but I don't think you read the entire thread which deals with golf contracts with our spouses (unless you are married in high school).

Fortunately for me, I have a very understanding wife. She understands that I am going to play golf every day the weather and my schedule allows. I play around 300 rounds per year. (Yep, I know that is almost every day) I also work full time, but I normally leave work between 3:30 and 4 in the afternoon, so I can get in at least 18.

At my age, no one... I mean underline NO ONE, is going to tell me what I can or cannot do with my time. It is my way, or the highway.

Damn it man, I thought I had it bad! My wife goes for 2- 1 hour lessons, 3 1-hour range time and 4-18 holes per week. So, that's 8-1 hour lessons, 12 hours of range time and 16- 18 hole rounds per month. I will admit it costs me dinner out and bingo once a week, but that only seems fair to me. Since I start tournament golf in January after a medical layoff this year, that's why she is understanding and also 24 years together helps.

Sort of.

What I mean is that my wife is pretty understanding since I also do play mid-day rounds and take trips to Myrtle, LV, and Scottsdale. With that said, I actually try to have some self-imposed discipline and play most of my golf at times where it interferes as minimally as possible with her life and that of my 22-month old. In terms of "asking," I think that is just smart. I learned a long time ago that keeping my wife involved in the decision making is the best way to get what I want. I can't remember her ever saying "no, you can't play" unless there was an outing, party, trip, or salon/spa appointment that wasn't in my calendar. That includes rounds at Bethpage which is an all day event (2 hour drive 70 mile drive each way + 5-6 hour round).

So you are the ones playing two or three times a month that create slow play in front of my group . I only get to play 5-6 rounds a week, could you please pick up the pace a little.

What is very interesting to me is that the starters and rangers at the courses near me all say that the slowest players on the course are usually the best.

They have no real evidence of that but that is what they say.

I don't have a formal agreement in place. It is more of an unwritten peace treaty. I play nine every Sunday with her uncles, but it's early. We usually tee off before 7:30. Infact, in the Summer it's closer to 6:30. We play in less than 2 hours and I am home before they get up. I also feed the dog and let him out before I go. That way he can go back to bed and not bug her. The kids are 12 and 8, so they are able to feed and entertain themselves.

My wife also plays. She is my partner in our league. That gets me an additional 16 nine hole rounds each year. We play together when we are on vacation Up North as well. That is good for 5-10 more nine holers.

Overall, she is pretty cool about it. I don't push it too far. Not counting outings and our Father's Day tourney, I usually get 1 or 2 18 hole rounds a year without her. This year I did test the limits. I went on a 3 day golf outing with my brother and 10 of his buddies. I am planning on doing it again next year, so I will have to come up with somthing to do to earn some points before that.

As a starter/ranger we'll tell you anything so we don't have to hear the bitching. showing up on a weekend, holiday or getting put into a foursome expecting to play a round in three hours ain't gonna happen. With a slow group that lets a hole get open between them and the group in front will get them held up on the tee so faster groups behind can play through. Slow play with groups in the proper position will get you nothing but I'll see whats holding up play.

    • Terry - what a story…I’m about 12 yrs your junior but I do have friends in similar places of life. Like others have said - “go for it”.  The fact that you’re willing to challenge yourself in the midst of dealing with something like Parkinson’s is hero level stuff….looking forward to seeing how this great adventure plays out and make sure to get some of it on video as well.  Make them memories dude!
    • Played nine today. Just went out trying to make a swing that had the feels of what I am working on. I would give it a C- at best. The best swing came on the 9th hole, 220 yard par 3, downwind. I finally made a swing where I felt the pause, and the arms down stuff like I practice. I hit the 4 iron about 215 yards, it rolled just off the back of the green about 20-Ft from the pin.  I might play 10 yards shorter on every iron shot, and make that pause swing, cause I can still hit it about 90-95% the distance.  Distance wedges or 3/4 wedges are going to different. Shanked two of them today trying the pause, arms down stuff. Might spend a bit of time looking at the video on those shots specifically.
    • Day 350: good practice session today. Hit about 25 balls, working slowly on my priority piece. It looks decent in slow motion. Better at full speed but not quite there. Then putted for about an hour. Focused on putts inside 10’ but also did a stack putting session.
    • Two of my golfing Buddie's are left handed. I will play a couple of rounds and use their clubs and see how I do.  Played last Thursday and had the worst game ever. (Playing in really strong winds. (SW @ 20 to 30 mph with > gusts.)  Will let everyone know when I get back out. May not play until Monday.   Thanks everyone, for your encouragement.    Terry
