The course where my younger brother is a member just put all of its demo clubs on sale last weekend so I tried a Ping G15 10.5 with the TFC 100 regular flex shaft (very reasonably priced at $150). I get the same kind of distance out of it that I've been getting with my Callaway Diablo 10 degree but my accuracy is substantially better...I missed only one fairway on the course and this driver puts the ball exactly where I want it to go. I was a little surprised by this because my Diablo is a draw driver and the G15 was the regular ("non draw") model.

Anyway, I was all set to whip out my Visa and buy it but the pro shop also has demo G15s with the same shaft with 9 and 12 degree lofts. I was interested in the 9 because my previous driver was a Ping TiSI Tec 8.5 degree that I was able to hit pretty well albeit not quite as far as my Diablo. On the other hand, I suspect that the 12 might be pretty easy to hit also but I really like the accuracy the 10.5 gives me.

My swing speed was about 99 but after hip replacement last year I'm around 105 now. Given the choice between the 9, the 10.5, and the 12 which would you buy...and why?

Sounds like you hit and liked the 10.5. Go for it. No "what ifs" if you buy the one that is a proven fit for you, right?

I agree... go with the one that you know works for you.

Yeah-my main thought is that at 105 you should be hitting a stiff shaft. I swing 105-110 and use stiff and Xstiff driver shafts.

If this is true, the question has been answered.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Don't really know, this is about allways the case with any new driver

Kinda what I thought, but I just wanted to validate it. Sticking with the regular flex though. My swing speed is more likely to slow down than speed up since I'm in my 50s.

wish i did the same when i got my 909 D2. first three holes where: 270 yards down the middle. 200 yard snap hook X 2. took me like a month to figure the thing out.

going back to the OP, it sounds like u found a good driver but u can always try the G15 and see how u like it. btw, i would also agree that a stiff shaft would probably help.

How hard do you swing? If I really "go after" it with my G10 and stock S (TFC-129 or something) it turns into a hook pretty fast, but a conscious effort to make a smooth transition leads to a straighter longer shot. I still might put a stiffer shaft in it this winter.

If you swing farily smoothly - no herky jerky movements - you might be able to pull off an R shaft. Without some significant time on the course, a fitter can tell you for sure. Just don't swing like a rabid ape during your fitting session.

If it worked it doesn't matter what flex is printed on it. Flex vary from shaft to shaft and manufacturer to manufacturer. Ones S may be another's R and so on.

I made it a point not to change the swing that I've been using with my Callaway, which is fairly smooth and has been ever since the hip replacement. Curiously, the G15 felt slightly stiffer than my Callaway. My ball flight has always been left to right, even with a draw driver. The G15 is a neutral driver yet every drive I hit with it was either perfectly straight or had a slight draw. I haven't changed my swing, so what's up with that?
