Graphite shafts for irons?? Who uses them??

Well I was wondering if Graphite would be a wise choice if I was to build me a set of clubs?? Irons 3-gw. I have a swing speed of 105-110 mph. Do take a divit on most shots. Some say I have a desending blow type swing. So which shaft would I need?? Any club gurus out here?? Thanks. I have a 3 iron clubhead and found a deal on UST IROD iron shaft. Will build it and see if it works or will it break. Thanks again for the help

it shouldnt break.

i use graphite shafts in my irons, and ive added TONS of distance !!! with your swing speed, you may not need them (im 96 mph), but it sure wouldnt hurt to try.

im of the opinion that most men dont do it because they dont see the guys on tour doing it.....however, matt kuchar uses aerotech shafts, and he's doing damn well.

give it a try.

I have graphite shafts on my ancient relic irons. This was my first year on the course, and I'll be looking to upgrade to more forgiving irons this winter. My swing speed is in the low-mid 90's, so I'm wondering if I should switch to steel shafts for more control and consistency...

I use irons with stiff graphite shafts, to allow me to play pain free, due to tendonitis and some other injuries from an earlier time. I can't imagine breakage being a factor, as I make a proper swing down into the ball, take a dollar bill size divot on most iron shots, and have hundreds of rounds on my current set.

I use graphite for mostly the same reason, most of the distance gain is from the longer shaft. I recently switched a couple of my wedges out to a different company with steel shafts. I have noticed that on the few times I want to jump on them they respond better than my graphite ones did. The graphites tended to go higher but not much further, the steel show a bigger distance change when swung aggressively. Might be the particular graphite shaft I use though.

Graphite shafts have lower weight, and would help people with slower swings pick up clubhead speed. Recent lightweight steel shafts do the same thing. The DG R300 SL weights in at 97 to 105 grams (approx.)

A local pro and clubfitter said graphites dampen vibration.

I've got Uniflex steel now. If anything, I might try light steel. I fight overswinging, and too-light graphite might increase the problem.

Had em (cant remember the brand) and couldnt control anything. WAY too incosistent for me. But they may haev just been the wrong shaft altogether and I cant discount rgaphite shafts altogether. I switched to DGHLS300 and I love em.

Don't think you need to worry about them braking if they're installed well.

I've had a few sets of graphite shafted irons, and now use steel. The graphite feels a lot lighter and I definitely got more distance. However, the light feel led to overswinging, and I lost accuracy with them. I don't think I'll go back to graphite shafts on irons, but that's just me personally.

Ive got graphite shafts in my my hybrids, I think they do add somedistance due to the longer shafts and being lighter. I think graphite shafts are normally longer to add some weight to the club as they're so much lighter than steel. Ive tried graphite irons, a friend even had a set he let me try out but they just didnt feel right, just too light.

My 3rd set of irons is graphite-shafted Nike Forged Pro Combos. Haven't had a problem hitting them, I think the lighter weight shaft reminds me not to overswing. I have a torn ligament in my right wrist, and some arthritis in my left thumb, so on days when either is bothering me I use the Nikes as they encourage a smooth swing and produce less vibration.
