There's nothing to know really. Just act normal and respect the course as you normally would. The people there are just people, like you and me. In my experiences playing private clubs...I've come across some of the nicest people and played some of the most enjoyable rounds of golf ever. The condition of the course, the way everyone respects it, the blazing fast pace of play, etc. I've encountered more jerks on public courses vs private courses by a longshot.

It's like everyone there is as passionate and as serious about golf as you are, they all "get it" just like you. You'll love it.

Enjoy.

Some of the CC's don't allow hats to be worn indoors, and DEFINITELY no CELL PHONES indoors. Dress nicely and tuck in your shirt.

Check their dress code, some don't allow cargo shorts, require your collared shirt to be tucked in, and don't allow sneakers or hats to be worn indoors.

Related to this, call the club manager and ask if he/she can arrange a temporary locker for you for the visit. Many country clubs have rules against changing your shoes and shirt in the parking lot. Also, ask how you should drop off your clubs at the pro shop. At upscale clubs, managers are usually quite willing to help visitors to "fit in."

If you chew tobacco spit in the cup not on the green. If you smoke discard your butt in a good place, the ball washer comes to mind. Seriously have fun, relax and enjoy the day.

Yes the dress code thing is a big deal in many clubs. Our club not too bad, but some of our sister clubs have a sock rule - Socks must be below the anke or above the calf. Take you hat of anywhere inside just to be safe (you are buying drinks at allot of clubs if walk into lounge with a hat on).

Leave the cell phone at home to be safe, clubs all have differnet rules, at our clubs you can have you phone outside, but at one of sister clubs, you can't have cell phone out anywhere on the property including in your in the parking lot (obvously not an issue unless you talking on it)

Good stuff. Most of this has been stuff I already planned on but I appreciate all the help. I was unaware cell phones were such a faux paux and I like the idea of possibly getting a temporary locker from the manager. Since none of this will cost me a dime I'll be sure to bring a big wad of cash for tipping.

What is the feeling about photography? I'm a photo nut.

Thats a good question I wanted to bring my DSLR to a public course but I was a little worried they might get pissed off.

Don't know about a private course, but I've never had any trouble with a big camera at public courses around here. If you looked like you were using the course as a backdrop for commercial photography it might be different, but I can't imagine anyone caring if you're just taking a few pictures (without slowing down play).

In the bag:

    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
    • I think the $50 fitting price tag is per club. The clubs I am most interested in getting fitted for are irons. And I'd rather not spend a bunch on getting fitted for multiple irons. Would I be fairly safe to assume that choosing something like a 6 or 7 iron for fitting would likely relate to other lofts in the same configuration/make/model?
    • A Mevo is 500. Comes with little decals to hit balls inside too.
    • I replaced a 3 driving iron as it was called. If I hit it clean it went close to 180 like the hybrid does but it was very inconsistent. I had to aim left because it would fade and I could never hit it dead nuts straight. We have a lot of wind being by the ocean so a left to right wind was suicidal with that club for me. I don't have a lot of Shot Scope data so far that would show yardage as far as dispersion or proximity to hole goes, but so far everything is staying relatively tight. I am not spraying the ball, I feel like it goes where I aim, any thing off is user error and not the club.
    • Ok, great. Best of luck to you in the future. I gave you the answer for significantly less than $20k though, just sayin.
