so for those of you in Florida, Cali etc.. and have the chance to golf 12 month/year....what is it like?

do you get bored or tired of it?
or do you absolutely love every minute of it and would never move anywhere else in the world?

Here in Canada we are approaching winter and sub 30ºC temps (-22º F for you)..yes its that cold...and for a lot of the winter
with these temps we are forced into indoor ranges and putting on astro turf for 7 months
some dont even look at the sticks for 6-7 months
then there is the inbetween months - too cold to golf and waiting for snow (fall) and warm enough to golf, but still snow on the ground (spring)
then a month of crappy spring golf, then its good for about 3 months

so i got in about 65 rounds this year

couldnt imagine what its like to golf 12 months/year...
always said if i won the lottery, i would SOOOO be moving to Florida for this reason alone

enlighten me

Absolutely love it - even though I probably shouldve taken the month of January off last year as we did have a couple of sub 30 degree weekends - which I had to play since I had friends down from up north just to play.

I dont think I could ever get sick of it but I do see some of the older guys that used to play 4-5 times a week now getting jobs because they got *bored* golfing all week.

The only reason I stay in Florida is for the year round golf. I find the people kind of on a lower intelligence scale and the economy blows.

Wow, and I thought Michigan was pretty bad.
We can normally golf from April till about October/November-ish depending on how cold it gets.
But prime season would be from May to early October.

I try to go to Florida every winter to enjoy golf. I don't think I'll EVER get tired of living in a warmer region playing golf.

I'm in North Carolina at the moment. For the most part we can golf 10 months out of the year and the only reason I don't golf the other 2 is 30 degree weather. I would say for me, during the 4 months of colder weather I slow down a lot and may play 2 times a month. Just to take a break for the most part. But, before living in NC I lived in Wisconsin where I would say we get about 7 months of golfing. That winter break was a little long for my liking and found myself hitting in heated outdoor ranges during those months.

Michigan...you would think it would be colder longer, but i guess not

we cant even start to think about playing until mid-may, depending on how much snow fell over the winter, sometimes late may i live in Saskatchewan tho, those Albertans (Miller) can golf earlier and later in the year

Wow. Getting a job just because they're tired of golfing?

I think they don't realize how lucky they are. That would be heaven to me. Dan

I like it. I try to play once or twice a week all year long weather permitting. I don't see this as something I'd consider regarding the place I live, but rather it's just something that is available in the place I happen to live. I'd love to be able to go skiing without it requiring a long trip, vacation time, and a significant cash expenditure.

me too Sask. is THE WORST place to live for golf although they say we have the most courses per capita, most golfers per capita...not sure how when we get 5 months to actually enjoy it (MAX) were 8 hours from the mountains for winter activites (snowmobiling or snowboarding) we CAN ski/snoboard here on little "pimple" sized man made hills...but really (insert yawn here) i envy you all that can golf more than me.......

A little bit longer since we put up those mountains to divert all the early season shite weather your way - wasn't that a fantastic spring? Is it summer yet?

Consider yourself lucky - you get a few months to recover from all the torn ligaments and stretched tendons - 65 rounds - that's insane!?!?

I'm on the west coast we can kind of golf all year round but temp greens is kind of pointless since the only part of my game i really want ot practice is pitching and putting but the greens get so slow its almost pointless to do

First off don't lump all of Canada in with you prarie guys. (; Here in Vancouver we get 9-12 months of golf per year depending on what you think is golfable. We had 5 days cold enough for snow last year at my course and I think I golfed all but three weeks (and we shut the club down for two of those weeks). In some ways I think we have the best of both worlds here as we do go to winter handicaps/rules and we often play to temp greens. So we can still golf but it different and a bit more relaxed from Dec-Feb.

I golf year round but I do take it much more serous during the spring summer and fall. The winter play is more just to get out of the house, get some fresh air and see the guys

Florida is great, but it is not all moonbeams and lollipops. Try swinging with sweat running into your eyes, and no amount of toweling off will keep your hands dry. Add in a heat index of over 105 and even Florida can be tough to play golf in. July through September can be brutal. Not saying I would trade it for cold and snow, but there are days that I just won't play, even though I have an annual membership and the 5th tee is one block away.

Now, the other nine months - perfect!

what does a year round memby cost you ( if you dont mind me asking)

and do you pay ini one shot or monthly? I pay $1600 for a "year round pass". even tho its only good until it snows

That is a tough schedule, I was in Buffalo the last 3 years for school and mistakenly lumped in most of Canada's golf season with Western New York's. Golf season there was just like Michigan's-late March at the earliest, through October and possibly November. I played the whole season, even in early spring and fall when it was wet and cold, if the course was open I'd head out. I'm impressed that you've played 66 rounds in such a short time frame, but that's probably why your handicap is what it is.

I liked Buffalo well enough, but when I graduated law school I moved back out Arizona. Golf 12 months a year, and though it's really hot in the summer, golf is really cheap as a result. I've played about once a week this summer, with 1-2 trips to the range/week, and a couple short trips to San Diego to visit family and play golf in temperatures below 85 degrees F.
