That is the Jack Nicklaus tribute course to St. Andrews called the New Course at Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando. I played there 2 months ago and the 1st and 18th are set up just like on tv without the town. The rest of the course is in the tradition of the Old Course, but is not an exact copy. It was worth playing.

Thank you, Sir.

That's the one where the moron who bought it thought that London Bridge was Tower Bridge.

That was denied:

I think it's a great news for us Michiganders.
I'd definitely pay a visit once they're open.

I think during the tourist season there would be a waiting list. Not many people would venture to St. Andrews in the winter months. Its pretty nasty there from Nov-March. I was stationed at the sub base in Holy Loch Scotland for awhile.

From watching it on TV, the coolest part about St. Andrews is that the first and the 8th holes look like they are in the middle of the city. They are fenced in and everything. I hope they make that realistic, and I hope they make something to look like the hotel on 17.

There are whole sections of Detroit that are (or seem) abandoned.

Just bulldoze the land needed for the replica St. Andrews and presto you have the course built right into the city. Seriously, the whole thing seems incredibly cheesy. I can imagine the locals, trying to fake Scottish accents as they wait tables, caddie, etc.

My friend bought a house in Detroit for $2,000 cash. That city needs to become a parking lot.

I doubt it. It will be an additional course at an existing resort.

While there is no substitute for the real thing, for those of us who might never get the opportunity to make the trek across the pond, it would be interesting to at least have a taste of what it is like.

Detroit is actually really nice in parts of downtown. It gets a bad rap. The outlying area of the city is pretty crappy yes, but downtown is very pretty especially by comerica park and ford field.

So... about 5% of the city is nice ^_^

If you don't like it there why do you live there? Personally I feel those who rip on Detroit have no sense of its history or the people who live there. There's a lot to like about the city and your comments are ill mannered and rude. There are actual people and families who live there and try their best to make a living. My parents both grew up in Detroit and I've lived in the area my entire life and love it.

Detroit has definitely seen better days and like many large industrial cities has deteriorated as the manufacturing base has left, revenue has declined and the schools have gone to hell. But Detroit is historically one of the most important cities in the history of the US and deserves better than the thoughtless remarks you and others make. Regarding Lakewood Shores in Oscoda, the Aldridge family certainly understands the history of golf. Kevin Aldridge, the son has visited Scotland many times and loves links style golf. you can see that influence in the Old Course at Indianwood Country Club and in the Gailes Course at Lakewood Shores. I'm not 100% sold on the idea of building a replica course but the chances of me getting to St. Andrews anytime soon are slim but it's highly probable I can drive 3 hours to Oscoda to pay a reasonable facsimile. I'd be there in a NY minute if this happens. By the way the city of St. Andrews adds a lot of flavor to the Old Course but the keys are the strategies and shot values, not the scenery. I suggest reading Alistair McKenzie's book on golf course architecture: "The Spirit of St. Andrews" for more.

There is an amazing concentration of golf courses surrounding Detroit with cheap rates. Every time I go to visit or work in other parts of the country I'm disappointed at the few selections or the prices or both; spoiled I guess.

Back to the OP, that part of Michigan is desperate for anything that will attract more visitors since the air force base closed. Hope it works out. I'd like to give it a try.

If you haven't been to Lakewood Shores you should go. The Gailes is a great course but very hard and the Blackshire, while not as good is a very nice track and fun to play. The prices are very reasonable as well.
