Anyone played with these?

Im using X-14's at the moment and like the feel of them and how forgiving they are. How do they compare?

Any reccommendations?

The 22's are a little more forgiving than the 14's, not a whole lot of difference in the Callaway X series, just slight tweaks and improvements with each new model. I'm still playing the X20's, and have no plans to replace them anytime soon.

I haven't played them, but have hit several times at golf store indoor ranges. I know you can't tell a lot by that, but they feel so easy. If I was shopping for a new game improvement set, they would be high on my list.

I played the X-22s for a while last year, and found the long irons really easy to hit... despite all the current chatter about the 3-iron being virtually redundant these days.

I'm glad I got the X20s - with a dull, nickle-like finish. X22 has shiny chrome, and shows more bag wear.

In launch monitor tests I hit the X22 about 2 yards farther than the X20. But, I found a slightly used set of X20s for about $300 less than the X22s - guess which ones I got...

Callaway X series is awesome. You can't go wrong with any club in the series...

I used callaway x-18's which I got used. Once I really learned how to a hit an iron (lol) I've found there mighty forgiving and easy to hit. I love these clubs.

The X-22's are just a continuation of the design and tech of the X-series. There may be some slight differences, but I doubt it's anything an amatuer would really notice.

They are great, high quality irons either way...

I picked up a X-22 6i for $10 just to see the the difference between hitting it and the 6i from my X-12 set. There was virtually no difference. I hit them both the same distance, but the X-22 flight was a little higher on average than the X-12. The experiment was well worth $10 as I see no benefit now to spend $800 to upgrade to new X-22's or other irons for now.

If the X14 heads are worn out, or you want a different type of shaft, you might switch. Otherwise, why?

I play a set of irons about 15 years sometimes, so I may not be the best person to ask. I got the X20s in spring 2009 when I went from stiff to regular shafts across the board (except for wedges)

      Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.

      I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.

      In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.

      Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
