Uh, with the exception of very, very few people in the history of golf, Johnny Miller

I don't disagree, but he's not out there doing it now. In my opinion it serves little to no purpose to have a commentator telling me how bad and stupid a certain play or shot was. Just don't care for that.

Okay, I do. I want to know whether something was just hard or whether someone botched it up. The difference matters.

As a pro, whether they had soft jazz playing or the soothing sounds of Johnny Miller, you'd still be able to spot the difference.

Johnny Miller is awesome, he actually gives insight to whats going through a players mind during the shot and he provides analysis as to how the shot should be pulled off or shouldve been pulled off.

I find the mental side and nuances of the professional game (like tour pros get nervous from this...... etc) much more interesting than people like Mike Tirico or Chris Berman

I just don't agree with this. I can tell, as I'm sure most folks that watch golf can, when a player hits a crappy shot or when a shot is hard (aren't they all). The commentators do a good job of telling you when the player faces a difficult shot but I just don't care for them telling me what a good for nothing somebody is if they don't hit the shot.

And why does the difference matter?

Agreed, and even at less than pro ability I have no trouble determining if a shot someone is about to hit is difficult, if they flubbed it, or both. Johnny Miller was a great golfer, but he's my least favorite golf announcer. He doesn't add to my enjoyment of the telecast at all. Between Miller and silence I'd take silence.

Miller has his moments. Venturi and Strange in comparison, were awful. Awfully repetitive.
