Why do people call it lower and more boring ball flight?

because thats what the OP is wanting out of his drives...?

9.5 with that shaft shouldn't be outrageously high. Go see a pro if you can, for the peace of mind if nothing else. Could be swing mechanics/impact position that is causing the high ball flight.

actualy yes it easily can be too high with that combo if you normally hit kind of high shots.

I can hit any driver/shaft too high if I am swinging like an idiot... too.

Hell, a few small fixes from a recent lesson brought the trajectory with my current driver down about 2/3 of it's previous height. Not everything is solved with instant equipment swap.

I can hit any driver/shaft too high if I am swinging like an idiot... too.

My friend has that shaft and head combo, shoots in 70's and he sometimes balloons the ball with it. Ive hit that combo and i hit the ball somewhat high and my normal flight is low and boring. Im not saying its a bad combo at all, i would use it, but its definitly not a low launching shaft by any means. If he switched to a low launching shaft or atleast tried one it would instantly bring his ball flight down instead of him spending hours trying to learn how to hit lower drives

I agree with you there, too. Sounds like the shaft is a stock made-for TM shaft, too, which is likely pretty bogus as far as consistency with stated torque, kickpoint and flex values.

If he is hitting other clubs with the distance and trajectory he wants, a low torque and higher-kicking shaft could be the ticket. However, in reference to my first reply, it makes a ton more sense to ask a pro to watch you hit before blindly making shaft changes. Shafts and install aren't too cheap, and I'm a big advocate for doing things right the first time.

I normally hit high shots. I used to use a 300ti with 8.5 loft and 85 gram shaft and this was not a problem. My drives are like firecrackers. They just rise until they look like they run out of steam and lose all forward moment, then it just drops. I don't care for it. I doubt if I want to change my swing anymore and just want a lower boring ball than this high dying one.

Although I am on vacation in Jamaica and my buddy that is a golf pro is here so maybe I will get some tips...

I agree with the backspin, I am not sure about the angle of attack. I do know that they are generally straight now and that is one part I do not want to screw up. I have found that this happens (ballooning) more often with prov1's than cheaper balls like the NXT or Big bertha. I don't care for them around the green so I put up with the ballooning drive for now.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks. 
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.  
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on. 
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
