Does anyone know how to tweak golf carts. I remember in high school some guys on the team knew how to do it. They would take a straw, lift up the seat and put the straw somewhere on the engine. The cart went alot faster but it could flip easier. Anyone know how to do this?

I have to say that I hope not. As a golf course employee, we see enough carts wrecked without having to deal with everyone on the internet knowing how to rig one to go faster. Typical repair costs for such damage runs from $500 (for something as simple as driving over a curb and knocking out the steering system) to $2000.

I sincerely hope that if this information is posted that a responsible mod will promptly delete it.

its ok really. The cart doesnt go that much faster. The only way you are going to flip is if you are going full throttle and make a sharp turn purposly trying to flip

Some guys at my club have had "upgrades" made to their personal carts. They go very fast, but it was also very expensive to tweak the computer. I think the one guy has an extra battery, but his cart goes at least 25mph.

I will tell you what they are doing not how to do it.

On the throttle for Gas Powered Golf Carts there is a governer this restricts the throttle from being pushed to 100%. Thus limiting the top speed of the golf cart. If you were to loosen this or just take it off youd be able to accelerate with 100% of the golfcarts power. This can however lead to dangerous and reckless speeds and can damage the engine, even blow the engine, if the RPMS get high enough.

-Does not work with electrics that I know of.

yea I cant remember if they were gas powered back then. All I remember is they stuck a straw inbetween something. I think it did what you are talking about, alowed them to throttle 100%

It's different for different models of cart.

And FourPutt, there are instructions all over the web. A thread here isn't going to make any difference. If anything, it'll show you who the hoodlums are.

Out of morbid curiosity, why do you feel the need for this information?

I realize that some models are not as fast as others even when properly limited. We have EZ-Go gas carts, and they are definitely faster than the gas powered Club Cars that our sister course uses. Most electric carts I've used seem about the same unless there is something wrong with one.

Yeah we put the governer back on the E-Z go Utility cart where I worked because it would go to fast and all the tools in the back would make a lot of noise. We have condos on the course and people would complain.

My Favorite was the Condo Maintanence guys had one of these: http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-.../Overview.aspx Thing goes like 50mph and has 4 independent suspension the ride was so awesome.

I played a round once at a muni, and I got a cart that had the governor removed. It just hauled ass for a golf cart. A small thrill between every shot, keep that heart rate up...

Surely there are hundreds of places online with that type of info anyway. So anyone who wants to know, knows - that is how the internet works.

What I Play:
Wilson Mini Stand Bag | PING G10, 10.5°, Proforce V2 HL S | PING G5, 15°, 18°, Aldila NV 75 S | PING G5, 19°, Aldila VS Proto By You 80 S
Mizuno MX200 4-PW S | Ping Tour W 50/12 X | Ping Tour W 58/TS X | A selection of putters, all 35.5 inches.

Im just happy sometimes at some of the courses i play at, if the battery doesnt go dead before i finish 9 holes, ive had that happen a few times. Sometimes it seems they're so slow that than can barely climb up a hill. Obviously you dont have that problem with the few courses that still use gas powered carts and I do prefer those, they seem to have more power but im sure in a few years most all of them will be phazed out. Going faster might be fun, but you wouldnt want everyone doing it, someone would get hurt, tear up the carts and the course too.

I wouldn't hold my breath about the phasing out bit. That is a huge expenditure to switch over to electric from gas. Gas carts don't have to be indoors and plugged in every night. We keep just 14 carts indoors, the rest are in two fenced in areas, one attached to the clubhouse and one in the maintenance area. If we had to build garages and wire them for cart charging, buy the electric carts, then just give the heave to the 60 or so gas carts, it would break the bank. We have enough expense just turning over about 20 carts a year. Replacing the entire stable would be prohibitive. Much cheaper to switch from electric to gas than the other way around.

yeah im sure most will use what they have until they are completely worn out gas or electric, maybe replace the oldest ones a few at a time. One local course just bought all new carts this year, mcleansboro but i think a few wealthy people made some donations

Bypassing the governor (
by jamming a stick or pencil in the throttle to leave it wide open
) will make the golf cart go faster - but the problems are:

- the r.p.m. are constant from zero to thirty(ish) = when you stop you have a build up of pressure in the engine and if you go again before the pressure releases - you're going to back-fire the hell out of it (which could be dangerous).

On gas powered carts you can take any type of string and tie it to the throttle body, pull the string to keep the throttle open all the way when the governer usually kicks in. Very bad for the engine and you can get to very dangerous speeds, especially going downhill.
