I am so glad I did it. My birthday is this month, and I NEED new irons. I knew my set didnt fit me at all, but I didnt realize how bad it was. I am currently playing some Callaway X-18 Graphite regular shafts.... Im 6'3 and after playing with my club pro this morning he recommended his buddy who owns the local Edwin Watts. Tom, at Edwin Watts, did a great job and really went over every aspect of the fitting with me. I told him I wanted the Nike VR TW blades, but I guess Nike is no longer making those due to a new model coming in Feb 2011.

So, I went with my other favorite...Titleist 710 CB's. I am +3/4" length, 2* upright, X-Stiff DG Soft Step. Its amazing how easy I was hitting the ball once I had the right club in my hand. I was told my irons should be shipped to the store by Friday (which I was also impressed). After the "friends" discount and the Edwin Watts 10% birthday discount I ended up getting these for $727 after tax. Pretty nice IMO.

I am really, really pumped now because my country club's fall classic tournament is in two weeks, I am playing in the Winn Dixie Jacksonville Open Pro-Am at TPC Sawgrass on 10/20, and I have a trip planned to Pinehurst 11/2-11/5!!!! What a month in golf!

Congratulations! You'll be very satisfied with a set of Titleist irons. Best of luck in your future rounds and you'll hopefully get used to the CBs quickly.

Yeah buddy. That 10% is another reason I waited until my birthday to get my new irons. It ended up saving me some money in the long run.

I've just had a fitting with the new Mizuno DNA.....if you have a consistant swing i.e. tempo, speed etc then it's well worth a go! You might be quite suprised at the results!!

My fitter used about every fitting tool possible. I hit a few shots on a lie board, a few with impact tape on the face, the mizuno shaft optimizer, pings grip fitting chart. I cant wait till Friday. I guess nobody is ordering custom sets right now because they are already working on mine.

Well guys, I got my irons today. FANTASTIC. I haven't had a chance to hit them yet lol. They are a little heavier than my X-18's, which had graphite shafts, but that was expected. Tonight I have a dinner at the TPC Sawgrass Marriott so I will not be able to hit them till my warm up tomorrow morning. I dont tee off til 1:30 on the Stadium Course, so I should have ample time to get a feel for them. The nice thing is that its a 4 man scramble, so I dont have to be perfect on every shot tomorrow. It will be a challenge learning my new yardages. Looking forward to several rounds in the 70's before the end of the year.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
