As the "Year of the Wedge" is wrapping up, I have realized that my 3 year old CG10's are worn down beyond recognition. My question is, should i buy the new grooved CG15's or buy the old grooved CG15's with the "Zip Grooves" before they're gone? I just finished my sophomore season of high school golf, and i am not planning on playing in college. The deadline for handicap posting is 2024, so the USGA rules are not in effect for me yet. what would you do?

Actually the only time you'll maybe experience some less spin is from the rough with the new grooves, so if I was you, I would buy the new grooves, who knows if you might reach a serious level of play. 2024 is only for the club hacker ..... amateurs playing in near tournament level will have to have new rules equipment in 2014 ...... so why wouldn't you buy the new grooves now...... !

Ill take the old grooves from the rough, and either from the fairway. My CB's have the new groves and I was spinning penta's off the green with my PW and 9i. There is a noticeable loss of spin from the rough.... but not enough to warrant buying older clubs.

This is my feeling on the topic. All of my irons are new grooves except my SW, and that isn't just because it was what was available in the pro sho when I was spending my book money from Men's Club competitons. I certainly wouldn't have gone out of my way to look for old grooves. I play a Bridgestone E6... it pretty much doesn't spin on greenside shots no matter what grooves I have.
