Nice videos...some interesting stuff he said in there. Not really much instruction, probably because he was giving this lecture to other teaching pros.

I liked how he said there have been some people he has taught for 8 years that have NOT improved, but still come back to him for everything else he "teaches" and what goes on in the lesson, such as relationship stuff, mental-game, etc.

His description of first timers was great -
Sean: "First thing I ask is - what exactly are you trying to do to that ball?"
Golfer: "Get under it so I will make the ball go up in the air."
Sean: "That's not how it works...it's called loft."
Sean: "Then these guys buy 10 lessons from me and call me the messiah!"

HAHA.

Yeah, the videos are great. I particularly like the part where he talks about how your mental approach to life can change the water composition of your cells to affect you physically.

[/sarcasm] The more I find out about the guy the more of a kook he seems to be.

Sean Foley is the best golf instructor that has ever lived. He is Tiger´s coach. That´s all the credibility he needs. After all they call him the Dalai Lama of golf for a reason. Anyone that talks smack about him just doesn´t understand the deep revolutionary thoughts that he is trying to communicate. The man is a pure genius!!!

lol, no in all seriousness I think he´s full of shi.t and a complete douche.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

My favorite part was where he said he doesn't pay any attention to what anyone says about him -- and then illustrated that by relating in minute detail how some Canadian golf writer had dissed him in print, like, ten years ago and could now kiss his ass etc.

Yeah, and you forgot the part where he talked at length about Charlie Wi's comments.

Still, the water composition thing takes the cake for me.

yea when I first watched part of it, I thought he was a little different in alot of what he was saying. I cant remember all the comments but he would say stuff like he isnt any religion because then someone might not listen to him because he isnt their religion or something. How is that related to learning golf I dont know, lol. I didnt really get alot of what he was saying though. I would of liked to see some teaching on golf

I've grown very tired of the whole swing guru thing. To me it started with Leadbetter - it seemed he was one of the first (at least to my recollection) that changed the concept from a teaching golf pro to a swing coach, elevating his own celebrity to almost that of the players (and probably a greater than some of his players). Since then it seems that we've had a steady parade of teachers spouting the same old platitudes about the golf swing while self-promoting in every form of media possible. Foley seems to do the same, but is adding a whole new level of arrogant flakiness to the mix. Whatever happened to the Harvey Penick's of the world?

Dude, seriously? I'll give you that he seems to be a good communicator and certainly knows what he is talking about, but Dalai Lama? Hardly. I would give anything to be able to take lessons from Bob Gillis, the pro at Bass Rocks Golf Club in Gloucester, MA when I was a kid, for the rest of my life. The man could diagnose everything that you were doing wrong just by watching you hit 7-irons. May have to see if he is still over on the East Coast of FLA.

    • In the old days, pre-2020, "playing to your handicap" meant a net score about equal to the Course Rating.  that led to problems when people played against each other from different tees, people playing tees with a lower CR would generally shoot lower scores.  Course Handicaps were adjusted for each competition to make it even, usually lowering the course handicap for the "forward tee" players. So now if you "play to your handicap", the (68.4-72) term means your score will be even par, no matter which tees you play from.  No adjustment needed for people playing from different tees.  Look at your example, the guy shoots 82 every time, his Course Handicap of 10 gives him an even par net score every time.

    • Because of the 68.4-72 part. If he shoots 10 over par (his course handicap), he will have shot his index. You don't factor par in when you calculate the differential, but you do when you calculate the course handicap. That's where the difference comes in. It works symmetrically: guy shoots 82 and gets a 12.4. Guy plays off a 12.4 and… has to shoot 82.
