Hey guys heres a picture of me out of the yearbook when I played on the golf team my freshman year of high school (1998). Yes that putter was way too long for me, Im pretty sure its 35" and I was only like 5"6 or something, lol. Its a wilson 8802. I actually just traded that thing in like 5 months ago.

this is me draining a putt to win

Thats pretty cool. I love going back and looking at HS pics. Then I wonder how anyone ever took me seriously lol. It was only 5 years ago too.

That pic looks like it could have been taken in the 70's.

yep back then we used drivers this size, lol. I used the original taylormade burner with bubble shaft. Had to walk up to the first tee infront of 100's of people in tournament play and hit the ball from a driver this size below without any warm up from hitting balls, lol. I remember this one tournament 100's of people around the first tee, I had no warmup and I get called to hit, I hit the most perfect pull fade and everyone clapped. I can still see that shot in my mind today, I even remember my approach shot. I hit it perfectly straight but too long and it went over the green, I had some addrenaline running

motteler, you are only a year older than me (unless you were held back in school or something. I just wish I had played golf in high school.

We always got warmup balls though, so I never had to go out cold. I thought they came with the tournament, but maybe our school payed for them :/

Wish I had the chance to play hs golf but I was a baseball guy so my springs were always on the diamond.

Waiting out the 2 feet of snow that just dropped on the course....

yea no warmups for us except for the putting green. I remember only one tournament that had a warmup range before hand and it was so far away from the course

That's exactly the reason I'm glad I never played golf until after high school. High school and college is when you have the luxury of playing all kinds of team sports with and against your peers, FOR FREE.

There's plenty of time for golf when you're older.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

you can play organized baseball after high school. My dad plays in leagues every year for softball and baseball, well he use to. They were setup by bars or something

h.s golf is in the fall, not the spring. Im not sure when highschool baseball season is though. If its spring you are good to play golf too, which is fall.

Also the golf season is pretty secluded from other sports, meaning if you are playing the golf team you will be able to join other teams. Like I could of played baseball, basketball, swimming or soccer if I wanted. We had some basketball players on the golf team and we are a basketball school. Won state a few times and we had shaun livingston on our teams, the pro basketball player now. I think football is the same time though

Depending on where you are it must be during different times of year. I played during my junior and senior years and boys golf was (and is) a spring sport out here in SoCal... the girls played during the fall. Also, at my school, there is no way that I could play a different sport at the same time as golf... we practiced 2-3 days per week and had matches once or twice a week.

True... but like mottler said you can find organized softball/baseball leagues if you want; it does cost a bit, but really isn't too bad (cheaper than what most of us spend on golf). I played golf in high school partly because I got to play all the really nice, expensive golf courses, FOR FREE...

yea you cant really play another sport at the same time. At my school there werent any other sports going on at the time tho except for football. We practiced every day after school and had a couple matches during the week then throw in the random tournaments. The golf season was only from the end of august to the 1st or second week of october if your team made that far. Pretty much over at the end of september

I still use the 3 & 5 wood of this model. I'm probably giving up 10 or 15 yards to the new technology but I enjoy hitting them.

    • I'd have taken relief, probably.  You decide what interference is, they don't.  Unless you're in a competition, and an official can help make sure you get it right.  Or you might play two balls, under Rule 20.1c(3), if you're in a competition and want to be certain you get it right.  Of course, your Nearest Point of Complete Relief and Relief Area might have been further into the bush, in which case I'd have played it as it was.
    • I was out at the wknd on a course that I had never played before in a society. My tee shot came to rest between line of golden furz bushes and cart path.  I looked at the lie and figured I could advance this ball nicely down the fairway.  It wasnt the bush that was bothering me but the cart path. Playing partners were high handicappers ( I'll explain why this was relevant ) and only issue they saw was the bush, not the fact that my ball was about 12" from the edge of the path right along the OOB line.  They could not see how a concrete path that was almost 1ft in front of my ball could be deemed to be interfering with my swing.  I have spent lot of time and money to get my swing where I am coming down on the ball with -3 or -4 Deg angle of attack and bottoming out maybe 4 to 5" in front of the ball.   My club was most definitely going to catch the path.  The two guys I was with couldnt grasp this and said any relief I get would be from the bush ( 1 drop shot ) and not free relief from the path which because if they were hitting it then they would have no issue with the path. ie High handicappers only see whats behind the ball,  not whats in front of it.   Ask a scratch golfer to hit a ball 3" infront of a concrete path.  Easy,  just hit it cause they are not concerned with whats behind the ball as they will be striking a descending blow.  High handicapper on the other hand is going to be coming down in most cases a few inches behind the ball and will be put off by the path behind the ball.  I just punched it out from where it was as didnt want to upset any one.  So in short what would you have done.  ?

    • Ok thanks. I’ll be home in a few days after a several months traveling and once I get settled in I’ll be hitting the local courses and I’ll check with the area golf shops. A lot has changed in the last 30 years and I have some catching up to do.
