I wouldn't go to a sporting event expecting anything different. By 12, your grand daughter has likely heard it all before and even used those words. I probably would have asked them to stop once and that would be the end of it. If they didn't stop I wouldn't have involved the police. Now if they are spilling their drinks on my kid, it would be a different story. I can't fault you for your actions though.

Thankfully your are in the minority. I am no prude by a long shot, and drop the f word more than I should. But never around kids and only a complete idiot thinks it is his right

I believe this is my last post on this subject. I certainly never expected to generate 4+ pages of comments with this thread. I’m glad to see most of you agree that I did the right thing. I had no intent of causing any trouble and am still somewhat puzzled why the young men just didn’t just “cool it”. Did I take a chance of getting beat up physically? I suppose, but it was unlikely in my opinion since we were in a stadium full of people plus drunks in general don’t make good warriors (even though they think they are). But I did address them respectfully at all times and did not solicit any confrontation. They did that with their response to my request.

This wasn’t a first amendment issue because of the stadium rules. But even if it was I would have reacted pretty much the same. Just because you have a right to do something doesn’t mean you should. I can’t think of much that is more ignorant than to go around offending fellow citizens for no purpose other than you can and want to. I doubt that is what the congress had in mind with the Bill of Rights.

I have already said this, but I don’t have any illusions about what language my Grand Daughter has heard or been exposed to. But that doesn’t mean she was not embarrassed and uncomfortable with that language in this setting. I personally find using such language as a constant part of communications as ignorant and offensive. Having said that I would not say anything to someone using that language on the golf course (probably wouldn’t play with them again either). So I recognize that there are venues where such constant use of F-bombs and such are permitted. I also recognize that one might slip once in awhile in an inappropriate place. But this situation was not one of those venues nor was it due to a slip.

So I don't know what else to say on this subject and appreciate the inputs. Even those of you that disagreed with me, but did it respectfully, I appreciate the inputs. To those of you that disagree and don't know enough English to state your position effectively, you have my sympathy and you help make my point.

Good post, point well articulated, even if I do disagree , sure if we all agreed the world would be a duller place.
Take care man.
