Im looking to get some ideas for xmas presents for myself.

Any recommendations on golf books, dvds or training aids?

Gift cards are the best gift. For example, dstore.com gift voucher cards http://dstore.com/shop/gift-vouchers/

Golf books--take a look at the book section in the forum. Ben Hogan Five Lessons, Mike Bennett & Andy Plummer Stack and Tilt, and Stan Utley's books get consistently good reviews.
DVD--The only golf DVD I have is the Stack and Tilt DVD set. I'm considering Lynn Blake's DVD http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/index.php/DVD-s.html

Training aids--the best ones are cheap and effective--I just purchased the pure ball striker training aid (see thread in this forum)

I realize this is going to sound "bah-humbug," but I think that this will be good advice.

Don't get yourself a Christmas present. Certainly not if you're trying to figure out what to get, as though you're looking for something and the money is just burning a hole in your pocket. Instead, put the money aside in your savings account and earmark it. Let's say you were going to spend $300 on Christmas presents for yourself. Instead, you put the $300 into savings and promise yourself that, at some point in the future, when you find a gift for yourself that you want, you will allow yourself to buy it (as long as the cost is no more than $300).

I've been doing this for a while: my regular job pays for school and living expenses. When I do side gigs, some of the money is earmarked for fun spending (primarily golf; sometimes movies or bridge expenses). At this point, expense has almost stopped being an issue for me when it comes to hobby spending; making a purchase is down to whether or not I want to spend a particular amount for something (the new Machspeed Black is very tempting, but I'm going to wait for a significant price drop. Same with a light stand bag for range time).

That having been said, if you don't own the Utley books, I suggest getting them. And give me at most two weeks before I say the same about the B&P; book.

Yeah, it really does Binga, Bobby Clampet "The Impact Zone" book Phil Mickelson's "Secrets of the Short Game" dvds Tour Striker training club ("pro"-7iron) Boomerang putting aid (AUS made) http://boomgolf.com/mo.htm Srixon Z-star golf balls. I like yeller. Pin High Labels. Nice sticker/labels for your clubs with name/address/etc.. The Pin High Label website also sells Round Files, books that keep up with stats, GIR, putts, etc.. -Dan

Ditto on The Impact Zone...especially if you have a decent swing and like to get all golf geeky. It's probably the best golf book that I have ever read.

I'll be purchasing the Pure Ball Striker aid and a copy of "The Impact Zone" for my brothers. If you search for the Pure Ball Striker post started a couple days ago, Jeff is offering a buy one get one for members of this forum. Definitely a great deal!

Amazing book, my favorite by far. But the pages mentioned in chapter 4 are of particular use to understanding lag, pp3, and the utility of the PBS.

I'd be thrilled if someone knew to buy me an expensive wedge with box grooves and bent to 51 degrees. That would give me the gap wedge I've always needed in my bag (PW 46 degrees, SW 56 degrees). Looks like this particular gift is going to have to come "to me, from me."

Golf lessons--preferably putting lessons.

New golf shoes. The ones you’re wearing now have pretty much had it.

New golf shoe spikes. OK, your shoes still look good, but the spikes are worn down to the nub.

A wide-brimmed hat that actually does, instead of pretending to, keep the sun off your face and neck.

A new driver. Just kidding. You really don’t need this. Learn to get the one you have in the fairway and use the $400 to pay for golf lessons.

Thanks, I thought it would be a good gift! Plus, with the BOGO, it was almost a no brainer! Thanks for the tip about the specific page in the book...I'll make sure to let them know!

I must confess I broke down and bought a PBS and will probably be purchasing a copy of "The Impact Zone" for myself as well (Merry Christmas to me ).
