I filmed this in the living room last night since we have about 1.5' of snow on the ground right now.  No golf for a little while. Since I can't play outside, I decided to tear out the gas fireplace that was behind me!

A few things that I have been working on are getting the club head to lag through impact, turning my hips through impact, and following through.  Not sure why, but during range time and even pre-shot practice swings, I seem to always follow through and hold the shot.  Then when I step up to the ball, my follow through stops about 2-3 o'clock.  I guess it's just something I need to keep working on to make it automatic.

On lagging the club head,  I had a spell for a while of topping the ball, and finally realized that I was flipping the club head at impact.  So I've been working on getting the club head to lag, and had been having much better results..... until the snow came in yesterday.

And as for turning my hips, or lack thereof, I'm sure it is affecting my swing speed.

I got a Kodak Playsport camera for Christmas, so I decided to try my hand at filming my swing.  Still learning the software, but it seems fairly easy.  As soon as it warms up I'll film some more face on and down the line shots and post them up.

Critique away please!

im certainly not qualified to critique but the camera and software seem to work pretty well. im gonna look into it

Thank you!  Depending on if I watch the video here in the thread, or open it in Youtube, the 24 second mark is in two slightly different places.  The 1st is almost right after the start of the downswing, and the other is almost right at impact.

If at the start of the downswing, I think I can see what you are referring to.  It's either my left arm breaking down, or seeing my right elbow just below my left arm.

At impact, it looks like my left arm is definitely bent.  I think that is what you are seeing?  I never noticed it before until you mentioned it.  Is keeping the left arm straight (or both arms) at that point what's referred to the "flying wedge"?

The video is pretty much useless.  You need to hit a ball, not even into a net, but an actual swing where the flight is affected.  When you're just swinging in this environment, there's no chance for your brain to take over and try to steer the ball, which is the reason for swing flaws.

I'll give you a few things. You move your hips back a little on the backswing, you chicken wing at impact (bent left elbow), and your head moves way forward on the downswing and into the follow-through.

In my bag:

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Right hand too strong...get it on top of the grip more...weight is sliding back too much...feel pressure on the left foot at the top of the backswing...hit some shots with your arms staying straight after impact. Again, I post Erik's drill.

Jamo and Canadianpro, thank you!  That is a very interesting drill.  It's probably going to be a while before I can give it a try, much snow and cold right now.  But I will be playing for a weekend in Arizona at the end of the month, I may give it a try down there if I can.

    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
