Has anyone used any flexibility exercises to increase shoulder turn? I'd like to hear from those that showed noticeable differences which led to more distance. I've been playing for about a year and I do stretch, but I don't think i've seen any results as of yet. Thanks all!

Shoulder turn is good, i think the best pro's get to about 100 degrees if that.. I think Rory gets past 90 easy. If you want to increase distance, work on full body flexibility. It doesn't help your shoulders if your hips are not flexible as well, and as wel as many of the other joints. Any inflexibility will act as a energy buffer, and decrease distance....

My back is able to turn past 90 but my neck is not. It's just not in my physiology (stump neck)...

What helped me build a lot of flexibility and power in my back. Start light and work your way up.

This is a constant struggle for me.  This winter I am trying some routines on TRX equipment that mimic a golf swing.  I also have tried stretching without much improvement.  I am in my mid fifties and have numerous joint issues. The things I have tried have increased my comfort level but not my range of motion.

Shoulder turn is good, but let your hips turn too.  I don't get huge shoulder separation, and the club never gets to parallel, but I still hit speeds of 114-118 with driver all with staying solidly connected, sequencing properly, maintaining spine angle, and most importantly having good rhythm.  So don't focus just on your shoulders.  Keep them loose and free of injuries and let your whole body move through a range.

The Gill's right.  This is a great exercise for building stability in the glutes and lower back.  It looks like a shoulder turn thing, but you feel it the most in the glutes.  Make sure you can draw a straight line from your knees to your head.  If it looks like a V, you're not doing it right.

    • Day 59: just a short bit of mirror work and foam balls. Working on the leg stuff throughout the swing.
    • Day 601 - 2026-05-25 Short-ish day with only some later Skillest lessons, so I stayed after and got some swings in. GEARS Hybrid was set up for a lefty, so… not that. 🙂
    • Day 21, May 25.  Hit "the whole bucket" as practice today after reviewing my Skillest lesson.  I think something crept into my swing last week that wasn't in the lesson, so I went back to the lesson and renewed my focus.  Each ball was a minute or so, 2-3 slow rehearsal backswings and checking the mirror for how far back I was going. "The whole bucket" means every ball I have in the bin at my indoor practice room;  I counted when I put them back, that's six dozen plus six total.  That is probably more full swings than I took over the weekend (excluding range warm-ups) in two rounds!  But these were all with a 6-iron.
    • Day 265 5-25 Hit some balls just to see where i was, no "thoughts' except getting arms in front. Did some recording where i focused on getting chest through and arms in front.
    • Day 76 (25 May 26) - Broke out the "vintage" clubs (MacGregor blades, Wilson 4150 laminates) to work with clubs that are much less forgiving.  Worked through the bag using hard foam balls for the full swings, regular balls for the chips and pitches.  Found it to be a more focused session on making consistent contact.
