I inadvertently discovered an amazing training aid for the forward hip slide last night: pointy toed dress shoes.

I went to the range last night right after work (to work on hip slide + deep hands) and only had my dress shoes I picked up in Italy. They are the kind with the extra long toes. With the longer toe, I couldn't do my normal swing where my right heel comes up to quickly thus opening my hips with little movement forward... I was forced to have the entire right side of my foot come up together , instead of the heel first.

All I can say is that my left oblique is sore from the extra range of motion forward. I'm thinking of duct taping an aiming stick to the bottom of my shoe for the same effect. The difference in feel was incredible.

To be honest...if I had those pointy shoes...I would look at them instead of the ball...I'll just keep putting a ball under the outside edge of my right foot during practice to acheive the banking motion....I did however have a pair of pointies but that was in the sixties...with tapered pant legs...we thought it was cool

Ha ha.

I went through what you did without the shoes and to stop throwing my right knee out, a common malady but I guess another benefit is more hip slide although my feeling is that I have to initiate the left side more to feel the slide.

My solution was at home in front of the teevee, with running shoes and I mimicked the banking of the right foot forward, not out towards the ball.

Did it for like 1/2 hour a day for about two weeks and it steadily took.

You can accomplish more than you think without going to the range.

And buying expensive (but well made) Italian shoes :-)  I have a pair of Pradas and they last forever.
